Not sure if they're considered brokerages or trading platforms or both, but I'm looking at ToS and IB. The only knock that I've seen on ToS is that they have high fees... ($9.95/trade) from what I understand?

I won't be trading like a maniac (longer term mostly) so $10 isn't going to kill me.

A lot of people seem to use charts on ToS and trade with IB.

Just wondering what platforms/brokerages you use, and why.

Honestly, im pretty cash poor. What I dont pay in bills and gas i dump into my business. I have my dads estate managed by a good account manager. Hes gotten me about 6% evem in the last 2 years. Althogh id like my dads money to be irrevalant.

When i was investing a few hundred bucks here and tere I realized that the money i was tying up could have paid for better opportunity in my business as my margins are way wider than an average annual return.

Ill save investing for when im a self made millionare.

I do like etrade and tink or swim. The comissions are a little higer but te UI and mobile apps are top notch.

I dont trade and im not a customer but ive done plenty of research and used the ToS platform for papertrading.

IB has a great reputation and the cheapest fees out there and a huge range of tradable products. Dont bother with places like e*trade just stick to a discount broker. Otherwise your paying for the research and tools which you wont need/can get for free elsewhere. The only reason not to go with IB is they have min. account size or if you were in the UK where a DMA spreadbetting firm like prospreads would offer tax benefits.

ToS has a nice platform especially for options traders, but just use their demo for charting etc then place trades through IB. I think its 15 min delayed but that wont matter since youll be trading longer timeframes anyway.

I use Scottrade. $7 trades (ETFs free) with actual branches you can visit to talk with a real person. I've been pretty satisfied with their customer service the few times I've talked with them. You also have access to things like a Standard & Poor's stock report.

I have used Scottrade for several years with very good service. Buy/sell execution speed is very fast (usually within 1-3 seconds) and they also have local offices with real people to help you.

I use ToS, it's only $5.00 per trade for smaller lot sizes, with a cap at $9.95 if you start trading a larger number of shares.

ToS is expensive for options though, you'll be better off with IB.

The ToS platform is excellent.

I've heard some horror stories about IB, other people swear by it. Right now I'm using OptionsHouse as I'm mostly a spread trader. Thinking of switching to tradeMonster as they have some interesting tools for option traders. If you trade 10 or more contracts per leg the commissions are pretty reasonable.

I use TOS. I love the platform but share borrows (for shorting) are lacking. They use to have the best borrows prior to the merger with TD Bank. Also, executions have been sketchy.

I have heard some good things about IB. I will have to open an account and try them out.

P.S. Tos will let you trade at $5 per trade, just call and ask.
