    Hardware and Software Engineer

    INTRO
How do I find the painful problem? I work on a highly technical area and don't get any exposure or interaction with problems faced by other industries.

    Hardware and Software Engineer

    INTRO
Hi, I'm an engineer. I can build pretty much anything involving hardware or software. My challenge is deciding what to make. I need to find something the market wants, and ideally something I want to work on. I've made the mistake in the past of investing a lot of time into a software platform...

    QUESTION
You must know if you are adding value. Being an expert in the industry will give you an understanding. So will proactively talking to customers. Sometimes a business opp becomes apparent because you work in the industry but you can do quality research to help validate an idea without having to...

Software engineer working on a few ideas

    INTRO
Sounds like you're trying things that have already been successful, which at least shows there is a market. Is there something unique or way better about your apps?

PSA: Do most of your work on a computer? Then invest in a better laptop.

    MINDSET
Yes, make sure your computer has a solid-state drive (SSD). Your operating system will boot and run quickly. Ditto for all software and data located on this drive. You can add a SSD to your desktop PC pretty easily. For best results install a fresh copy of the operating system on the SSD.

Mindset to have about dating while building a business ?

    HOT! MINDSET
Choose a partner who shares your values. Relationships being work is BS. Maybe that's why the divorce rate is so high. The right partner will click without effort and you can be yourself around them. A good partner can be a huge support in every way. A bad one leads to doom. Sent from my...

    I've messed up

Yeah, you made a mistake but you actually were not playing it safe at all. Playing it safe would have meant you did your due diligence and minimized your risk before pouring effort into your project. Big difference between taking unguarded and guarded risks. You've learned your lesson and it...

What is the best way to deal with doubters ?

    PEOPLE
I consider the source. I ask, "Does this person know what they're talking about? Does their opinion hold any weight? Do they have a track record on this topic?" There is a difference between doubters, who really suck and should be ignored, and competent people who are offering solid advice.

Wordpress/Website Owners - Are attacks common?

    WEB/DIGITAL
You will get hack attacks and a lot of spammers. You're on the right track with the plugins.

Star Wars, Force Awakens (Thought it Sucked, Spoilers Quarantined)

    OFF-TOPIC
It is not a movie I want to watch again. It felt like a big Hollywood hit made with focus groups and committees. The original movie was a young filmmakers vision and it followed a classic mytholgical structure. Spaceships, Jedis, and cool characters are not what make Star Wars good... the...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
A meta message is that achieving the Unscripted life gave you the freedom to say what is on your mind without having to fear the reaction from politically correct employers. There are plenty of people living the scripted life who write books in their spare time but they can never express...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
I've read up to the part about the 9 hyper realities. Many things I am reading are not news to me. The book confirms that I'm not alone... nice to know that other people see how absurd things are. In a nutshell, many fictions exist to control behaviors, particularly to do with the generation...

    Code Ownership

    WEB/DIGITAL
Well, there you have it. My experience is that the clients have no idea what they want and what is involved and they have no money for a realistic budget.

    Code Ownership

    WEB/DIGITAL
In principle the WFH is the right way to own your code. There is pretty much nothing stopping someone from writing similar code or essentially making the same software. Stealth will help somewhat if you need a headstart. Nowadays if you've thought of something then it's 99% likely someone else...

Newbie already being talked down by friends :(

    INTRO
If someone says your idea is stupid, they may be right or they may be wrong. Don't just develop thick skin with the purpose of ignoring any feedback you don't agree with. Thick skin is for dealing with negative people who aren't constructive. As an entrepreneur you develop a filter to...

Newbie already being talked down by friends :(

    INTRO
I have the feeling that many of these stupid ideas that succeed were not well-researched and based on a target market. Maybe with the pet rock it was a hit with friends first which still counts as validation. When your friends just say "sounds great" to be nice that is not validation. Getting...

Newbie already being talked down by friends :(

    INTRO
Do you think your friend is way off base? It's possible your ideas are shit and he is trying to save you from wasting your time. The only way to find out is to know your target market. Is sounds like you aren't sure your ideas are good which means they probably aren't based on a clear need from...
