Good Numbers from KU.. How are yours?

    PUBLISHING
The people who'll be hurt the most by the change are those who relied on the fact that with a 10-20page book, a reader only had to flip through 1-2 pages for a borrow to count. At the current payout in most cases if you write engaging content and get the read-throughs on a book, you'll often...

    Kindle Unlimited... Authors in trouble?

    PUBLISHING
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet - the 10% is essentially available for free as the "Look Inside" feature. People are already where possible trying to leverage that cut off point with cliffhangers and whatnot ;) Also as a consumer I would hate to see Spotify go. It's the only way I...

    My baby steps

    PUBLISHING
:) Nice start, and I wouldn't say the pdf was wasted money. If you did it at right size, you could actually use it for Create Space to do a pretty print version of your book. Just a suggestion there. You've got a good attitude - learn from mistakes and move on :) Keep us updated and good luck...

Don't take it down unless it's hurting your brand :) Even one sale once a quarter is an extra sale. If you're happy with the book, it's always something in your backlist for those who enjoy your writing.

Quick update. 3k into the parrot story. Trying to deal with wedding organisation, a week long renovations project that has me move out of the house till it's done and running other parts of the business doesn't leave much writing time. Hope to catch up a bit while the painting is going on next...

A Reader's Rants and Thoughts on Writing

    PUBLISHING
Hmm, I'm not sure now to be honest. I used to be like, nothing but past tense, third person, thank you very much. But... since I've been doing a variety of combinations (3rd person past, 1st person past & present) I think it does depend on the story and with practice you can make most...

Lol, my British fiancé was appalled. ;) But I guess it could be used in dialogue if that's how certain demographic speaks... Not sure I would attribute it to region though. Unless the book was stylized to be from a not-so-well-educated point of view, this sort of thing outside of dialogue would...

Free Course on Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy - Brandon Sanderson

Yep, this is a great free course, especially if you are looking to work on your fiction craft (and it applies to more than just fantasy he uses as examples).

So... it's been a while. *Ghostwriting* Finally finished the ghostwriting book. The two books were an interesting experience. Sort of like my two years as a teacher. After the first year I thought it was great and maybe it could be an interesting career choice. Then the second year made me...

Ha ha ha, fun little updates. Great job with the writing speed. If you can keep the speed and add more and more quality over time you're on the right track. :) 1) Plot in head, and see scenes as movies in my head (and they're even in colour ;) ). Though I would like to / should do more upfront...

Update time! OK, maybe there should be a bit less excitement there ;) *Designy stuff* https://new.livestream.com/accounts/7886146 Trying to get over my fear of public speaking and doing videos I started to do the pre-mades live. I've planned to do one a week for months, but there was always...

Can't help on the law/residency issues. But in terms of how you can use it: You are not meant to put them directly in the book (due to affiliate terms not kdp terms). It's actually goo practice to link to say your own site and just redirect to the affiliate link from there. You can either link...

Thanks for the kind words @seamles. :) I didn't have much progress recently so been quiet, mostly doing ghostwriting, editing and covers, so haven't had time to write my own stuff. Got a few publishing related things to be done soon, but have to keep my head down to get everything in place...

Sort of similar to why I ended up using a pen name for the fiction books - branding. I use my full name for coding/design work, and any books in that area will be published under that name. If you have experience that adds klout to your books, it makes sense to go for your real name. The...

Thanks for all the comment COSenior! :) I re-wrote some of the copy. Tried to put benefit over feature (being a developer I really suck at that ;)) and pushed most of the jargon into "side notes" for those who care. Sometimes it's hard to spot what is and what isn't jargon when you talk shop...
