English is not my native language. In that sentence I don't get the "expensive" word. Does he mean "Money is infinite-abundant(expensive). It is up to you to collect it."

He means that things are expensive to buy...cars, house, hobbies, etc... - it all costs a lot of money. If you're getting rich slowly (it takes you a long time to get rich), you won't be able to afford the nice expensive things.
