What should my gross margin be for a custom software company?

I run a video game studio as well with about 25 paid employees but it will certainly never net 80-90%. It currently does about 30-40% net for the investors which by any account is good money. Any business where you do all the work is a completely different spreadsheet so to speak

Same. Go sell something then sort the details as needed and hire a lawyer to do some of the backbreaking work. ( i thought they would cost more.. who knew!)

What should my gross margin be for a custom software company?

The reality is it will be dictated directly by the needs of the business and how much support you want to give it. My recommendation would be to figure out how much revenue you want to make for the next three years. Subtract what you need to make as a base profit to be happy and then work...

Do I have to leave my job when I receive seed funding?

    PEOPLE
The only thing that is required is results. If you set goals.. communicate them to your investors and hit those goals it doesnt matter how many hours you work or if you have another job. I think a lot of people assume you have a shackled job that you dont like. (You may love your job) If you...

Loaded question. Really depends what you are willing to give up but if its a profitable busines 10% would be a great start imo. You can always work in the shares becoming his after the first fiscal year is complete just to put some insurance on your side. Letter of intent to give shares to...

    Exiting the Slowlane

    EXECUTION SLOWLANE
I also strongly disagree with the job quitting philosophy. If your objecitve is to get out of the slow lane having dual income streams only amplifies that ability. 1.not working will very likely weaken your financial position 2. There are more than enough hours in a week for two projects 3...

Harnessing that "extra time" you have is really the key here. (You don't need to quit your other job at this point it sounds like a breeze for your skill level) Once you accept that you need to get moving on the rest of your life i would find a job nearer your home or sell and move to gain...
