While I wholeheartidly agree with the first part - make a plan of angle of attack and know your target market, the second one about colors and design and congruency etc of your brand to the market while important should come ONLY from your testing after you have some decent traffic. Just slap something together based on a hunch and by observing WHY competitors do what they do as quickly as possible and test if anyone buys.

You'll have time to play around with the tweaking of the brand later.

BTW - Congratulations on your new launched site and getting a quote from Rand as well as having a number of active early adopters.

I agree with you roark, some of the stuff like 'launching too early'I disagree with, but I agree with his overall message about thinking of all angles like marketing before you spend money on an non-viable idea.
