As part of my new PLAN, I have decided to dump a few dozen free books into the mailboxes of reviewers. I would like Luck-Struck to appear in magazines and newspapers, so I was thinking about mailing them to the magazines I like to read and to the magazines my market reads. Any other ideas for good people to send a free copy to?

Tim Ferriss seemed to have a lot of luck with relevant bloggers.

This was before his book's release, but still maybe worth pursuing.
He actually states pretty clearly he's done doing book reviews because there has been too many submissions. Interesting idea to search for bloggers like him thuogh!

Did you measure the difference in response on your webpage w/ the happy lucky people vs. the lightening strike?

If the happy people are converting better, you might want to consider a cover redesign before you go after those big wigs.

In my short lived career as a publisher, I can tell you most magazine are flooded with books to review. Authors and publishing houses look as magazines as free ads, and the magazines no it. So you have to differentiate yourself from the masses.

1. Make contact first, don't just send the book. Get them to commit whether or not they are interested in reviewing it.

2. Ask if the do advertorials. Ask what they would want to do one.

This can garnish good results if you target which mags you have review it, but just remember, unless you do something different you are just one of 100 to that publisher.

I'd say your crazy going after all those big wigs
LOL. Who should I target? Little wigs?

A cover redesign is possible, but I may just wait until I have put together a second "special" edition in hardcover... Maybe even get a real publisher? Thoughts?
Ask if the do advertorials.
I had not heard this term before. Will look into it. THX.

Anyone find hypocrisy in this? Sorta like having 100,000 followers and following none back.

MJ-

I dunno. Seems like his whole model is to NOT DO things. :smxB:

I s'pose he could outsource/hire someone else to read the books for him, and write the reviews, but this might be problematic.

Imho,
Self Improvement Magazines: Forbes, Entrepreneur, SUCCESS, Self Improvement Magazine,

This demographics believes in the power of self over luck, you want to target a demographic that is very rabid about their lives controlled by luck. People that read horoscopes come to mind. I think there is even a horoscope magazine if I am not mistaken.

I would imagine, the mags in the supermarket checkout aisles would be some of your best targets.

btw- advertorials is an ad that looks like a regular article. Basically a paid positive review.
