BRAVO! So many people, including myself, have been guilty of taking supplements based on scant science, or worse, anecdotal evidence, or worse still, pseudoscience. I'm not taking shots at anyone here, but I've been reading many of the contributions to this thread and few people (not all) are taking their supplements based on any measurable need, and their perceived benefits seem to be mostly anecdotal. I'm not saying supplements aren't warranted in certain circumstances (extreme examples being vit C for scurvy and vit D for rickets), but there's a ton of BS and waste in this arena. I guess that's what makes it such a fruitful hunting ground for marketers.

The more I learn, the more I realize that Grandma had it right: Everything in moderation.

By the way, haven't meta-analyses shown that the placebo effect is as high as 25% on average - and that's even in randomized, double-blind studies? Does that sound about right?

is it because of your diet? Or did you injure yourself and your knees got bad?

Tumeric helps a lot you can increase the amounts...but you want to also not eat fulls that lead to inflammation such as a lot of diary, sweets, heavily processed foods, etc....if your eat a lot of junk then taking Tumeric will only attempt to cleanse you from your diet instead of work solely on healing your body.....also try intermittent fasting then try to fast once a week....

    The supplements I take:

*Fish oil 1000mg softgels Kirkland (3-4 daily)
*LIFE FORCE multi (the best multi there is for the price just try it)

Other than this I maintain a healthy diet which consists of fruits, vegetables, eggs and meats. I eat in moderation and only when I'm actually hungry. If I'm not hungry. I don't eat.

Can't help but wonder if all these supplements like "pre-workout" or "post-workout" and other "teching" powders are actually just the placebo effect in action lol

Best to inject it rather than take it orally.

This is so true. All pre workouts is bullshit. If you want to get hyped, order cafieine tabs way cheaper and you dont pay for the packaging and the athletes commission.

Creatine can be beneficial, is worth to try considering its really cheap (just buy creatine monohydrate, no fancy shit blends or something) and if you're into building muscle. Whey protein can help reach your protein goals, but not necessary.

Whey protein I don’t really consider a supplement as it’s food.

I used to take creatine when I was bulking up as a teenager, not sure if it helped. But I guess it seems like anything helps when you’re making gains because you’re in that positive mindset, you’ll believe anything.

The only pre-workout I take now is Redline. That shit is enough.

If you want to get rid of fish oils( because they are expensive) eat cod liver. Here in Holland its way cheaper, if you want to get the same amount of benefits that are in €2 cod liver you spent 20€ fish oil pills.

The best supplement depends on individuals. Some may need more vitamin d3 or calcium if he or she lives in a cold area where difficult to get sunlight.

The best thing is to get the blood test done first and take the necessary supplements. Personally, I tested a lot of supplements last year. Found out that multivitamins are a waste of money. Intermitted fasting and cleanse supplement really works.

FYI, some supplement may work for you but may not work for somebody else.

I second you on Life force. Indeed the best for the price.
    NOW fish oil
    Citicoline

The latter two because I suspect deficiencies, the first for 'insurance' as I'm hitting the weights hard these days.

I am sorry but it is silly to say that ALL supplements are a scam. Yes, a lot of it is but there are plenty of studies showing that quality supplements for people that need them can vastly increase quality of life and health. Based on the different diets around the world, most people are deficient in some kind of nutrient such as Westerners being deficient in Magnesium.

To answer the question, I take B Vitamin supplement, Magnesium, and Fish Oil.

Please make sure you buy supplements from sources that have independent testing done on them to ensure they arent loaded with crap or even harmful.

Yeah but taking them everyday is ludicrous. You’re body only needs a few doses if it is seriously depleted.

Plus, most of these bottles have an insane amount of mg of each vitamin; way over the amount the body can actually absorb.

Taking them everyday is just a product of clever marketing, you’re better off just eating healthy.

Back when I was involved in all this stuff, we used to have a saying:

    If it works, it's illegal.

Still good advice far as I can tell.
