Cmon, lets unearth some opportunity. I'll start:

I hate having to change my guitar strings every month because they go rusty.
I hate that its near impossible to recover photos from an Android phone when you've forgot the pin code.
I hate the options for my Lunch break; it's either an overpriced sandwich at the Supermarket or fast food junk.

    What do you hate?

Can't think of anything I currently hate enough to stick in my mind.

When I read your list I think of Guitar wipes, Google Drive and Wraps (which I personally hate as I find them too chewy and bland). I looked at coming up with a solution to the wrap several years ago but food cannot be patented so as soon as you gain some traction the big guns will move in as you will be a sitting duck.

I dunno... I think "hate" is a very strong word. Personally, I try not to use it, and correct my kids when they do.

Admittedly I had to think about it for 5 minutes to think of some ideas, simply looking around my room gave inspiration. Never heard of guitar wipes, seems like a solution. Google Drive is good but presumes you've prepared for the problem of forgetting your passcode.

Sure, hate is too extreme. It was more to created uniformity in the thread for exposing opportunity.

I'm with you on this but everyone has an agenda sadly. I have pretty much stopped reading/watching/listening to the news. And what I do see I take with a bag of salt.

    Ok, something I do hate:

I hate how people are held back from starting by those who convince them they don't know enough yet - that they NEED stuff before they start.

... that they need a business plan first.

... that they need a business name.

... that they need a logo, a tagline, a strapline, a founding story, investment, validation, an MVP, to pivot, to buy that book, to do that course, to join this mastermind, a USP, customer avatars, an inbound marketing plan, an outbound marketing plan, a social media plan, a content marketing plan, paid search campaigns, SEO, Facebook bots, podcasts, a YouTube channel, a video marketing strategy, a growth hacking book, more skills, more experience, more connections, more money, more time.

Grrrr. It fecking riles me up how some people knowingly put obstacles in other people's ways - so that they themselves benefit (I'm thinking of higher education and business schools in particular here, but the script has many faces).

I can imagine a 15 year old nicking his dad's lawnmower and going round the neighbourhood asking if anyone wants their grass cut. I can imagine him getting a few yes's and going home with a few dollars more than when he left.

I can imagine him wondering wtf I'm hating on...

I hate wearing a dust mask at work in the afternoon 105 heat . Also hate snorting moustache sweat when I bend over. Also, holding in a big one all day. These are worthy of hatred. If you can solve these pain points you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams.

I dislike how my apple earphones and chargers keep breaking. I also dislike how people take my chargers and earphones at events/parties and replace them with their cheap ass chinese knock off versions. It's become such a significant problem that I have begun buying both items in bulk and just storing them at home for when they break and go missing. I can't be without either of them for long periods of time or business may suffer.

Too late, it's already in the world. You gotta keep replying and liking.

I hate that there's so much information available, for free, but most refuse to find gold on their own - they want to know exactly where to dig, how far down and what to do with it after they get it.

On the other hand, without that laziness, there'd be more competition, so...

reality doesn't care about strong words

you have to be honest with yourself and say things as they appear to you

yes people won't like your honesty

but this is the price to pay to lead mankind

Look - I've been guilty of making similar posts i several different subreddits looking for my next big idea.

Mate - this isn't the way to do it. Yes, you could find your next million dollar idea by asking the right person "dude what are you still using Excel for in your business?" That said - odds aren't in your favor here.

You've got the right headspace with this - ultimately, you are looking for a way to find value. You're looking for a need in a market. You're looking for a problem to solve. Good on you for that! I much prefer to see a bad attempt at someone wanting to solve a problem than see the 5th t-shirt business post of the month.

That said, you're going about it in a needlessly difficult way.

Here's how you get a business idea.

    -

    1. Be real - are entrepreneurs the only ones with problems to solve? Are startup owners the only people who've got some itch they need scratched? No. Literally any single sector of any given business can be bettered and innovated because there are no perfect systems. That said - the vast majority of these aren't "sexy solutions" like building an Uber for dogs or build a bear for energy drinks. Sometimes you'll find out that the need is something as (seemingly) dull as "Many online marketers check their campaigns and review reports at infrequent time intervals, whilst not keeping helpful changelogs to effectively outperform previous versions of their campaign."

The first step is to realize that literally anything can be improved upon.

    2. Be really real - The next step is to realize that you're not going to be able to solve a good number of those problems (yet.) For example, I own several Apple devices. I love how effortless the connectivity between all of my devices is, and (call me what you will) I really enjoy the aesthetic of Apple products. That said, I also really enjoy the high amount of free available software from Windows, and how easy it is to do just about whatever I want on a good ol' fashioned HP. Upon telling my girlfriend this, she chirped in "Man what if I could convince Apple and Microsoft to get together and make a laptop together! Do you know how much money that would make!"

As wonderful of an idea as this is - an 18-year old girl with a non-tech background is going to have a hard time filling this niche. My first attempt at entrepreneurship was going to be Rampage Energy - I wanted to design an energy drink with "superpowers" very similar to what Neuro is today. I was going to use a lot of different ingredients to achieve various effects like increased focus, boosted libido, relaxation, etc. However, it would be very hard to compete with giants like Monster and Red Bull whilst being 15 and in high school.

Find a market that's accessible to you. Find a market that you can dive into head first in terms of curiosity, and learn everything you can about it. Then, once you're finally in the water, you'll be able to tell with a much clearer perspective which parts of the pool need some cleaning.

As for me, I discovered AdWords on this forum and found it to be a great tool that I could use to validate my business ideas. Next thing I know, I've been studying for months, and I'm now AdWords certified and piecing together products that will help other businesses complete their concept testing.

Step 2. Swim. So you've found the dirty part of the pool - cheers! Grab a drink, sit down, and get to work. (If you need a recommendation, that new Pineapple Black Tea at Starbucks is A1.) This is where things are (hopefully!) about to get boring.

Boredom is a huge barrier to entry, and not a lot of people will take a second glance at entering a business space if they find it particularly boring. What does that mean for me? Most entrepreneurs, as far as I can tell, aren't rushing to Barnes and Noble to grab the thickest textbook on AdWords marketing that they can find, dedicating several months reading it cover to cover, and paying hundreds of dollars for introductory courses that teach you the proper way to set up an AdWords campaign, find what metrics work best for you, and how to keep an eye on your ROI. (This'd be the wonderful course by my guy @Andy Black.)

By this point, you should already know what space you're in, and have a good idea of what you're trying to do. In my case, I knew that I was in the space of online marketing, and I wanted to learn more about AdWords. How can I use this to concept test new businesses? To give a few more examples,

I'm in the pie shops market, and I want to learn more about my daily processes and shop operations. What do the schedules of pie shop owners look like? How can I help them make better use of their time?

I'm really big on watches, and I see a lot of brand new watch brands popping up on various ecommerce sites. I'm really curious about this business, and I want to learn more about the customer satisfaction models. What happens when a customer's watch breaks? How can I help improve customer lifetime by offering a good repair service?

Asking these open-ended questions is a wonderful way to start gauging where we might have our next big idea, and where plausible gaps in the market might be. At this point, we should be actively involved in the market we've chosen. We can understand and see first hand the various flaws and "spots in the pool," so we can be almost certain that others can see these spots too!

Now, it's up to us to design a solution, and see if anyone would care for it.

    -

    Step 3. Vision and Verify

Now we know what space we're in, what problem we're looking at solving, and now only one small piece remains - what's our solution? Hopefully you'll be experiencing the problem yourself as we've begun our brainstorming, so daydreaming a solution should be as easy as saying "how would I like this to be fixed?"

As an example - the temperature around my apartment complex has averaged >100F every day for the past two weeks. No one wants to get home from a long day of work having fought rush hour traffic, and walk a heavy bag of smelly trash down three flights of stairs and across the street to the dumpster in triple digit weather - especially if they have a bad hip.

Having seen this, and having seen several trash bags lay outside of apartments, stinking the hallways until the cool bliss of sunset arises, I had the feeling that a valet trash service would be a good idea to run in my complex. For $20/month, I will personally make a round of the complex during a pre-set schedule and take all of the trash out to the dumpsters so you don't have to move.

That said, I'm not going to go off of blind hope and buy a new truck to haul the trash in, hire three muscle men to grab the bags for me, and quit my day job to focus on starting my business. I'm going to test it first! Since I'm only beginning with my complex, I decided to make some nice, free flyers at Canva.com, then go print them off at the local library. $30 later, I spend an hour or so tagging every door with a flyer that points all readers to my website. Then, waiting patiently for the PayPal notifications to roll by, I slowly start to gauge interest around the complex based on the number of signups I receive. If things are good, awesome, maybe I should run ads! If not, maybe I need to offer a cold water bottle to all of those taking the water out in order to have some "remarketing stragety."

You're headed in the right direction with your mindset and attitude OP.

    Break a leg. Adure.

Cracked me up as I sip my morning brew!

Like our good friend Andy, I also never use the word 'hate' as I think it is appropriate 0.000001% of the time and it just kicks up unnecessary emotions inside of you.

But OP, here's some shit for ya - (some of this shit is going to be really specific to my life/weird/random, but who knows, maybe it'll set something off for you!)

    - I hate that I can't monitor my electrolyte levels (ketogenic diet related)
    - I hate that my vitamins don't reorder when I'm running out
    - I hate that I don't know how many times a week I should wash my hair
    - I hate how messy chalk is in the gym
    - I hate forgetting my gym stuff when I go to the gym
    - I hate running out of battery on my gym headphones mid fricken workout!!!
    - I hate that every necklace I buy breaks
    - I hate that when I have a physical book but want to take it around on kindle I have to buy it twice
    - I hate that when I loan someone my favourite book it's never coming back
    - I hate that I don't know my specific neurochemistry and thus what supplements/habits etc are vital to maintain
    - I hate that when I go for a run (just got back!) my underwear gets sopping wet
    - I hate that my favourite t shirts change their shape after some time
    - I hate that I procrastinate
    - I hate that so much weight is put on ideas in business (I've been here though! And to some degree, still am)
    - I hate NDAs
