Hey everyone!

A few of us friends on the forum have been planning how to make this a crazy good end to the year.
We have written plans and accountability to each other. We are making it happen!

This is part of our plan. We’d love you to join!

It’s also incredibly easy to start.

Choose something to reach towards any goal you want. Do it for 30 days. That’s it : )

30 day challenge where you do one good thing, the same good thing, every day.
We’ll go Oct 20 - Nov 18.

This literally could be anything helpful to you!

Some of you already have such amazing routines to your days that you might not need anything extra.
In that case, maybe it gives you the rush and excitement of trying something new!

Others are struggling to feel accomplished or feel a lack of control.
This would be cool to try as it can give you both, depending on how challenging you make it.

Here’s a quick sample list of ideas:
  • take a 20 min walk outside
  • say your goals out loud every day
  • let someone else be right if it’s inconsequential
  • meditate or be mindful for 20 min
  • cut out the sugar, candy, pastries, sweet drinks, all the added sugar foods you can find
  • read 30 min of non-fiction
  • say ‘Thank you for…’ to someone
  • go to bed at a time that allows you optimal sleep
  • wake up at the same time every day
  • orgasm
  • find a reason to laugh
  • tell someone you love or care about them
  • improve your morning routine
  • cut out alcohol
  • workout
  • read to your kids
  • give your significant other a massage
  • journal
  • work 30 min a day on a skill you want to learn
  • say ‘No’ to yourself on one thing that isn’t helpful right now. A bad habit, treat, negative action, break to check social media, etc.
  • write something nice to someone
  • stretch or foam roll for 20 min
  • write down a task the night before and complete it the next day
  • count calories
  • cut out fried food and fast food
  • do something nice for someone with no thought of having it returned
  • take a cold shower
  • give a sincere compliment
  • help someone on the forum
  • smile at someone

I’m going with the say ‘No’ to a waste of time action or treat that doesn’t work towards my goals. After completing a few of other challenges this year, it strikes me as being different to those. Excited to see if it’s awesome, easy, difficult, or even transfers into other areas of life where saying no is a very useful skill.

The sample list is far from all-inclusive!
Choose anything you want and you can keep it private or post here and we can all share ideas!

I see @ZCP is part of the challenge.

Edit to add something useful:
I will turn off my phone and computer for 1 hour each day. Not just silence them, turn them off.

He will be now.. had to dangle a carrot in there:rofl::rofl:

Love your 'power down hour'! Putting devices on airplane mode all night could also be a good one!

great idea, I'm definitely in. Is the goal to just focus on one thing? or is that up to me?

It really is up to you!

If choosing one thing, maybe something that will bring improvement into an area that is more of a struggle to get more out of it!

If you have a lot of areas that are going really well, then I'd probably focus down on becoming really really good at something. Become the best at it!

I'm in!

Except I'm going for nofap for 30 days (actually, the goal is at least 1 year but let's start with 30 days). I might as well go full Jedi mode so no more smoking weed and at least 10 minutes of meditation everyday.

If I fail I will post in this thread. In that case please feel free to make jokes about me haha.

Best of luck to all participants!!

Best of luck! Nofap wouldn’t be a problem for me I’d rather strugle with the weed part. :)

Thanks! I must say that the not smoking weed is also definitely harder for me. When I started uni I really made it a habit seeing as I was just lost in life and all the new freedom haha. Everytime I manage to shift the smoking to weekends only it slowly slips back into my daily life, so it's better for me to just quit (at least) until I'm a few steps closer to my ideal life.

What are your goals if I might ask? If you'd rather keep them private that's cool as well of course!

I recommend using the Streaks app. I tried a few Todo apps but Streaks tops all of them by a long shot.

So far, my daily tasks are:

- Have three conversations (in-person)
- Send 10 outbound messages
- Study Psychology 30 mins
- Study Machine Learning 30 mins

My progress so far since starting:

Screen Shot 2020-10-14 at 10.09.17 AM.png

Have a conversation is 3x, so I have to mark that three times for it to be complete.

Edit: App is here STREAKS. The to-do list that helps you form good habits. For iOS.

Sounds like you are going in with a powerful self-discipline to succeed @WhoDatBoy!

Failure is a pretty fun topic!

When we've pushed ourselves beyond the easy wins, it can be a hard fall and embarrassing. Uncomfortable. And an amazing catalyst to adapt.

Giving ourselves permission to fail and learn in a different way than success teaches us is another way to win.

Permission to fail can also be the easiest way to lose before we even begin. As in, when we let ourselves be lazy, give it a ‘try,' or simply don’t give a F.

So if we look at why we want to succeed, how we set ourselves up to do it, and what we could learn if we do fail... we have an outline to keep advancing!

Count me in! I’ve decided to focus on my health for the remainder of the year, so mine are:

- Clean (only water) intermittent fast 18/6: I’m in the middle of reading “Fast. Feast. Repeat.” and ready to give IF another try without my morning coffee/cream crutch. I stopped drinking caffeine earlier this year, so this should be easy, but I’ve been drinking decaf loaded with cream and sucralose instead.

- Meditate 10 minutes, minimum: I haven’t been as consistent about this because we weren’t home this summer. But we just got back yesterday, I have my meditation bench waiting for me and no excuses now.

- Use “Way of Life” app: Track the other habits (exercise, journaling, massage chair, etc.)

Haha I also started already. Especially since I'm trying to replace some bad habits it felt stupid to wait so I figured might as well commit to it straight away.

- smile at someone (mindset)
I also started doing something similar. Want to learn to smile at strangers so I look more "approachable" and it's much harder than I expected. Still need to find a way to smile genuinely because so far I'm very conscious about it and it feels so fake haha.

Does it work retroactively? I did a painting a day in September AND I ACTUALLY DID IT so I'm pretty proud of that. I've got 30 paintings to prove it!

I feel I've spent all my mental energy getting that done. But I COULD and SHOULD meditate everyday, for my anxiety. And I've got my bf who already does it who could probably make sure I do it with him.

That's really really awesome @BellaPippin!! Love seeing your work!

I COULD and SHOULD meditate everyday

Am I making too big of an assumption to think you're changing that into a "I WILL meditate everyday" ??? ; )

It's interesting to see the results of a physical/tangible challenge, like painting everyday, and comparing it to how the results of the more intangible challenges feel.

Might be cool to test here so I'll do the 'say no' and 'work 30 min on a skill that needs developed' to compare in the same 30 day window!

Would love to hear how the painting v. meditating success feels to you!

Start the 30 Days Today!!

If you haven't already : ) You're choosing one good thing to do for 30 days straight.. or more than one! Find the balance of challenging yourself and not quitting when it becomes a pain in the a$$.

More ideas:

  • floss
  • stop eating 3 hours before bed
  • no porn
  • 12 hour daily fasts (like 8pm-8am)
  • no screens 2 hours before bed
  • limit your sitting down time
  • meet your daily macro calculations
  • eat together as a family
  • spend 10 minutes focused on gratitude

There's an extra layer of competitiveness, humor, and connection in a group challenge that may give you an extra boost. Others find that unnecessary and there really isn't a wrong way here!

The goal for today is to start!!

Hope it's not late to join the accountability plan.

Here I will apply the concept of "Implementation Intention" + "Habit Stacking" by the author of Atomic Habits, James Clear.

Implementation Intention : I will [HABIT] at [TIME] in [PLACE].

Habit Stacking : After [ROUTINE], I will [HABIT].

30 Day Habits Plan
  1. I will wake up before 7.30am.
  2. After brushing my teeth in the morning, I will read non-fiction for at least 30 minutes.
  3. After the reading session, I will take a cold shower.
  4. I will workout for 10 minutes at 5.00pm every day.
Purpose of Each Habit
Reading : Knowledge expansion. Compounded growth. Building my competitive edge.
Cold Shower : Stepping outside my comfort zone. Face my fears.
Workout : Self-discipline. Confidence. Health. One of the keystone habits that will affect all areas in your life.

Other Problem(s) to be Solved
Social Media Addiction : Endless scrolling through Instagram. Had the thought of deleting the app, but I think the main reason is not to miss my friends' activities and stories. A secondary reason is that I am managing a side Instagram account.

Anyone has faced similar problem like this before? How do you manage a business account, while making sure you don't mindlessly scrolling for new contents and stories?

Love that way of doing it! I also read "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. (Great book recommend it to everybody)
Additionally, I also learned a lot from "High Performance Habits" by Brendon Burchard.
My plan:
1. I will wake up before 5.00 am
2. After my grateful routine I'll go for a short jog for at least 15 minutes.
3. After that I'll take a shower and get started with work (latest by 6.00 am)
4. I'll meditate before sleep
5. I will go to sleep before midnight (on weekdays)

Now with covid, I had a real problem with being on social media too much. Deleted the app for a week or so it was great but I can't delete it permanently.

Definitely not too late!

Anyone can start and join anytime! And there may be a few who start over, keep adding additional ideas, or go way past 30 days!

streaks app worked. thanks @peterb0yd

Enjoying the app? How many days into your streak now @ZCP?

I had a real problem with being on social media too much. Deleted the app for a week or so it was great but I can't delete it permanently.

Did your week off feel like it reset the time awareness for you on the app? Have you tried this daily by choosing times that will be 'app free?'
