So I am working on my business, and so is my wife, which is awesome and I love it. I am so sick of trading away my time (meaning my LIFE) for a worthless paycheck...

Anyways, I know the book says to replace HOPE with CONTROL.

Well, but here's the thing:

Both my wife and I HOPE that our businesses take off soon.

I HOPE that implementing my next feature will result in more conversions.

I HOPE that I will receive traffic for this business to be my primary (and passive) source of income...

I mean I can work so much, and do so much, but in the end aren't we left with HOPE even though we've moved in the Fastlane and we hit the accelerator? We still kinda have to hope that our car does start to drive, and starts to drive as fast as we are HOPING for it to drive.

What do you think?

When is HOPE truly replaced with CONTROL? How can it be truly replaced?

No you don't just sit back and Hope. You need to create traffic, make a feature that people want.

Why do you only hope you feature gets more conversions? Do people need or want it or do you think they do?

Hi. ollimatrix.

The thing with hope, is that people who doesn't fully grasp "how" businesses really takes off.

They relay on "hope" to be successful.

The real secret is, that you need to get traffic like "biophase" said. And when you knows how to get that, you don't need "hope" anymore. You just need good marketing. Or excellent marketing.

I think there are three real ways to get traffic. They are.

1. Pr. "Sleep with the media". Hire a good publicist or do it yourself.
2. Networking yourself to success. And joint ventures.
3. Advertise and turn a net profit or break even on your advertising dollars.
- Direct mail advertising(Huge business.) and TV ads.
- Radio and pay per click.
- Banner ads, and other Internet advertising.

Use all these and be great at them. And you will have great "momentum".

No, there are "no secrets under rocks" or "hidden keys". These are the things which
makes billion dollar companies. Also, I forgot, "word of mouth".

But that will mostly just come when you can master all the other ones or "some of them", at least.
Unless you have some kind of script that let people recommend your product on the Internet and then,
maybe get a commission or discount or something.

Advertising is too me. The only real thing.
You spend $1 million and you make $100,000 or more.
You spend $10 million and you make $1 million or more.
You spend $100 million and you make $10 million or more.
You spend $1 billion and you make $100 million or more.

These are just examples. I can't promise you profits like this.
But it's how it works. Sort of.

Don't be discouraged if you don't make massive profits on your advertising.

Try something new, try something different. Or try a new product, or a field.

Look for massive scale possibilities. Guess I forgot about "endorsements", too:

Nike's $2.7 billion annual marketing budget carries massive cultural influence. Its endorsement commitments are worth nearly $4 billion, or about 15% of annual revenues of $24 billion.
But the point is. Nike spends billions on their marketing. And they make good money in net profit. Here is the article I grabbed that text from(Just to give credit, where credit is.): Nike: The Big Business of Fairy Tales - WSJ.com

By the way. Everything I stated about the ways to get traffic and make a billion dollar company.
It took me 10 years to figure out, and really get it to sink in.

Like: This is how it is done, nothing else. No "secrets under rocks" or "hidden keys".

I hope this helps.

Fantastic stuff Maxjohan,

Olli, to help myself visualise hope I try to think that it "squeaks like a mouse", it CAN work, just like you CAN make your way through a performance that you are really nervous about, but...
A man that is capable, is a man that isn't scared to get realistic. Don't be afraid of the task ahead of you. Face it.
The more skills you gain, the less hope you will depend on, and the more you will achieve.

In short, I dunno how to get control. Awesome question though, thanks for posting it :)

Re-wrote this for you:

MAKE my next feature result in more conversions

MAKE this business my primary (and passive) source of income...

i believe there is science of getting rich.
persistence. make sure you learn a lot when you fail and get back up right away.
there would be success after.

Here is the problem with sitting around hoping....

For years, only about 10% of the deals we put together would go through. 1 out of 10. If we had put together one business deal and sat around hoping it would pan out, we wouldn't have been able to grow. Instead, we did all we could to execute each deal and moved on to the next action item.

hope is not a strategy

get a strategy

get experience

learn from your mistakes

and get measurable traction

When you are on your idea generation phase part of the business, that's where hope is.

When you are now on the build phase, Hope should be replaced with the CAN DO and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN attitudes.

Hope alone can't make your business take off and certainly wouldn't drive enough traffic.
