The other night I was watching a movie from the late 90's and I couldn't believe how much things have changed since then, and heck, the late 90's wasn't too long ago.

It brought on a conversation of "remember when" as we tried to remember all the things we used to do in the past, that now seem to ancient history and forgotten.

Like...

Remember when you answered your cell-phone by flipping it open?

Remember when you went to a store to rent a movie?

Remember when your home land line was busy because someone was using the internet?

Remember you were cool if you walked around with a PAGER?

So let's hear it from everyone, including us middle-aged guys (@SteveO @Vigilante @jon.a @AllenCrawley) what "remember whens" has the technological life made us forget?

Remember when?? (PICTURES WELCOME!!)

Remember when you answered your cell-phone by flipping it open?

I still use a flip phone.

I remember our first color TV.
I remember TV clickers.
I remember when "Solid State" was high tech.

We had the first video game console on the block. The PONG system would hook directly up to the black and white TV.

I'm 22 but ill contribute.

I'm 22 and you just brought back so many memories. Although I didn't have that system, I went as old as nintendo 64 and blowing the games after rubbing it with alcohol made me so happy.

Many pre teen nights were spent playing Goldeneye with friends..

I recently found a new brewery by me that has an N64 set up in the corner with Mariokart 64 and Goldensye. They've won my business.

I remember when we had to hand crank the windows and lock each door individually on the car. I remember calling "with a code" on a payphone when it was time to be picked up. Saved us a dime. Three rings and hang up. I remember driving to payphones to call the next customer and using a paper map book to find them.

Remember when TV dinners came in a tray and you cooked them in the oven??

(although I think this pic might be older than the 80's)

Looks delicious! :playful:

I thank God every day I was born at the right time to where I can work my territory with cellphone GPS. I am the most geographically challenged person.

Watch out @MJ DeMarco, this thread is on the slippery slopes of becoming a 90's nostalgia thread! Haha

- Answering machines. Remember the genuine excitement you felt when you came home and that red light was blinking on the machine?

- Payphones. And God forbid if you didn't have a quarter. Calling collect was only for the most dire emergencies.

- Looking up directions. Even pulling up Google Maps and printing out directions feels like a lifetime ago.

- Not being accessible. No email, texts, apps---if you were out of the house, that was it. Nobody expected to reach you instantly.

My very first girlfriend gave me her pager number when we met....and she wrote it on PAPER! Ah, memories. (Come to think of it, why did a teenage girl in the 90's have a pager? Was she a drug dealer?)

Not all about the technological life but...

I remember when razors only had one blade.
I remember when there were only two choices of gas at the gas station... regular and unleaded.
I remember when the early "ecommerce" version of the internet was just basically webpages that only let you request a stores direct mail catalog.
I remember when it was customary to give a Christmas gift to your mailman and paperboy. (at least where I grew up.)
I remember when getting the Sears and JCPenny Christmas catalogs was a huge thing.
I remember when you wanted to record a tv show you had to make sure you had enough space on your VHS tape.
I remember when I listened to music on a cassette tape... in my walkman.
I remember when the Adam Computer came out and how badly I wanted it - but never got it.
I remember when my favorite store to go to was Zayre because they had the coolest vending machines with awesome toys and gadgets.
I remember using a secret code at pay phones that allowed me to make a free call.

Remember when stock prices were quoted in fractions? And you had to get the price from a newspaper?

Damn, my stock was down 5/8ths today!

I remember when my favorite store to go to was Zayre

OMG, I just remembered that! Freaking ZAYRE!

Many pre teen nights were spent playing Goldeneye with friends..

We must be around the same age.

Remember you and a friend getting a raspberry pi loaded with all the NES and SNES games, and an old tube tv complete with cabinet?
Remember explaining to his wife that the only way to play Mario is sitting indian style on the floor with your face 36 inches away from a fuzzy Zenith?

..ahhh nostalgia. Causing divorce since 1999.

Remember being super late for a first date, and not having a cellphone to call the girl.... and an angry dad opening the door?

Anyone ever rebuild a carburetor? If you got the floats wrong, you'd either flood it or starve it?

Man, unless they're into old cars...no one even knows what a carburetor is anymore.

I remember when all phones had cords, and you had a "party-line" and had to check and see if your neighbor was using the phone before you made a call.

I remember when I had a portable 8-track player and thought I was cool.

I remember when I got my first FM radio in my car.

I remember when we first got a color TV and outside antenna, and then the first console TV...and shag carpet.

I remember my first "data processing" class using punch cards...and Cobol.

Geez I'm old......:wideyed::rofl:
