I realize this forum is not the place for discussions on the Holocaust, politics, and other hot-button topics.
So I'm going to post this and let it marinate.
Simply put, the amount of "trust" people are putting into other people is simply astounding. Well, astounding isn't the word, more like, frightening.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you're not already familiar with it, here it is:

The Milgram Experiment, a study done many decades ago which basically revealed that humans will FOLLOW AUTHORITY, even if it involves hurting another human being, to the point of murder.

As an avid historian for all things World War II, this psychological phenomena is often cited as a reason behind Nazi atrocities...
Well, I was just following orders...
I bring this up because I see a lot of this country has devolved into order-taking zombies.
Many on this forum have raised civil rights concerns with the C0VlD-19 Pandemic and the current lawlessness in American cities, lawlessness which continues to go unpunished, allowed, and even encouraged.
Of course, when you raise any concern, or even draw parallels to Nazi Germany (research Kristallnacht if you want to be enlightened) you're labeled a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Or someone says "Godwins' law" as if that would help you when you're carted off or beaten for not bending the knee to certain political interests.
The fact is, I don't trust human beings, especially those easily manipulated.
Never have, never will.
In all of human history, atrocities have been levied on groups of people who don't fall in line for a particular political or theological ideology.
And 2020 is the year I should trust humans? And those who hold a position of power?
F*ck NO.
Want to know why?
The Milgram Experiment.
Given an authority figure, whether it be a politician, a police officer, a media outlet, or a Twitter user with 200K followers, the average human being is incapable of questioning the narrative and doing the right thing. I have no doubt in my mind, that if it ever comes down to it, "good people" will do bad things, or just do nothing. And yes, even people on this forum, people who I might consider my friend.
Paranoia?
I doubt it because humans have a 10,000 year track record of murder and mayhem -- not even considering the current human rights atrocities ongoing in NK, China, and other totalitarian places. To this day. American is not immune. Somehow I don't believe that some dramatic "enlightening" has occurred in the last ten years, much less twenty. We still enslave entire species, sentient beings, simply because they taste good, or because "well, it's always been done that way."
Whether you believe my assessment is not the point. The point is to not blindly accept authority, because one day, it might save your life.
During the 9/11 terrorist attack, a woman announced on the loudspeaker that it was "OK to return to your office." Those who perceived that woman as an authority, listened, and died. Those who questioned her, and continued to exit the tower, had a chance to survive.
If you're not willing to question authority NOW, you won't question authority LATER -- and that's when it might actually mean something.
Good luck.

Milgram Shock Experiment | Summary | Results | Ethics
The Milgram Shock Experiment, conducted by Stanley Milgram in the 1960s, tested obedience to authority. Participants were instructed to administer increasingly severe electric shocks to another person, who was actually an actor, as they answered questions incorrectly. Despite hearing the actor’s...
