Posted to a new thread.

As for the idea, I'd be open for it if there was demand for it. $50 is too much, but maybe something like $10 so it's serious posts, but not cost obtrusive.

If this is interesting to anyone, let me know.

I guess it could go both ways ...

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this in, but it's probably worth considering at least...

@MJ DeMarco , would you ever consider setting up a jobs board here on-site?

Have people pay a certain amount (less than the $50 for a Marketplace ad) to post their job, and have it available for other forum members to apply to via DM. Similar to how a Facebook group would work, but with a minor barrier to filter out the time-wasters.

It could help people here on the forum to get a start in the freelance world, while also being good for the person doing the hiring.

I know someone could technically post a Marketplace ad to solicit applications as-is, but the cost is a bit prohibitive compared to Upwork or the like.

I'd use this on day one without a doubt.

I like it. I’d hire somebody here every time over fiverr or upwork.
I like this idea. I would hire someone from this site
I like this too.
Great idea.
Big fan of the idea.
I endorse the idea! I'd make use of it.
I like it.

I like this too.

I try to get my paid help from people in this forum. I’ve hired a website developer, graphic designer, and had a bit of copywriting done via this forum.

Why? You can sometimes see they know their stuff from their posts, but more importantly your can see how they interact with people and what their values are.

I like it. I’d hire somebody here every time over fiverr or upwork.

Personal connections will win in business (almost) every time. I mentioned it in a different thread but I wish I had known what @AllenCrawley did before I dropped $100 at Art of Shaving :humph:

Similarly, if I needed freelance work I’d hate to hire a random person just to see a thread from a FLF member who does the exact work I needed.

IMO, the vetting process is the most important thing if you don't want the forum littered with money chasers. Maybe along with the 10 $ payment put additional requirements. A certain number of post (with at least xx number of likes so you don't have people spamming), a certain amount of rep money and required reading of GOLD threads that describe the Fastlane mentality. Seems like a good idea to create additional value and monetize the forum.

This also reduces unnecessary spam from newcomers jumping on the forums, posting in the wrong spot, and ultimately just looking to get hired.

I have a solution I'm going to test for that too ... I'm probably going to have a "Sell Me Saturday" where there will be one thread (only on Saturday) where ANYONE and EVERYONE can self-promote, backlink, drop videos, whatever they want -- in ONE thread.

The amount of posts removed from the forum for backlinking is pretty heavy -- and yet, some of them are pretty interesting and helpful. I'm thinking it will help curb the stuff midweek, while yet, give folks an opportunity to get their offerings out there without a payment attached. I don't mind looking at this stuff as it's nice to see what folks are doing; I just don't like it constantly intermixed into a conversation where self-promotion is half the thread.

I, for one, would check out such a thread and find it interesting.

Big fan of the idea. If possible, a kudos/commendation system could be put into place so people can vouch for skillsets. Kind of like how LinkedIn.

Also, I like the idea of either making people have a certain number of posts before posting or applying or have a number of reactions now that $reps are gone.

I've been thinking about this myself, in particular needing help with copywriting and SEO/digital marketing, but being fairly new to the forum I have been hesitant to approach people as I don't know if they're currently looking for new clients. I think a job board is a great idea, as only those who were looking for work need apply.
Just get into a conversation with them. It's all about building relationships. If they're too busy or it's not a good fit then they may be able to point you towards someone else. Even if they don't, you've had a good chat with someone and you both know better what each other does.

I like this idea a lot.

I would love to hire forum members to do tasks or even step into part-time remote roles, instead of hiring random upwork people.

I think the marketplace doesn't work for this.

The marketplace has traditionally been where people who have skills, need work. Or people who have a service, need customers. The job board would be a place where people who have work, need people with skills. Two completely different things.

There are a lot of talented people here... I don't even know what most of you do. I'm sure there's somewhere here who can do just about everything.

I think it will be self policing too. If I hire you for a job, and you try to rip me off or F*ck me over, your forum credibility is going to go with it. Likewise, if someone hires you and doesn't pay you as agreed.

Make a job board @MJ DeMarco and I'll post one of the first ones.

It's a sound idea, especially as you could look back in thread history to get a feel for your potential employer/employee/contractor.

I think it should happen, but the simplest way possible the better.

Basic post, basic straight fee, basic ad, connect 2 members and let it ride.

I get the feeling MJ has a lot going on already, enjoys being active here and if it gets too “complicated” it may not be worth the endeavor.

What about free for INSIDERS? With a monthly/yearly limit before having to pay. Or give INSIDERS listings some sort of priority.

Not fond of the fee + %, would turn it into UpWork Lite. Rather just have a fee and leave it at that.

Charge $10 for the person posting the ad. Charge 5 or 10% commission for the person who sends the invoice.

So the person hiring gets hit with 2 fees? Sounds expensive and administratively cumbersome.

So how would this be different from the marketplace?

Not much, price and focus. I think I'd also allow for partner solicitation as well, we get a lot of that here. If it doesn't get any traction, I can merge the forums. I don't like creating more categories/forums unless absolutely necessary and value-adding.

Yes, i like this idea.. I would be interested. There have been many times where i've though "hmm.. I'm interested in X, i wonder if anyone of the Fastlane Forums does this or has connections"
Yes, hope that turns out well. Gives us more opportunity to connect in a different way and make connections.

I like the idea and think the “wanted” and “for hire” will get more action/attention.

This could prove to be valuable, hope to see something on it.

Adding another income source by providing value to the marketplace, a fastlane solution.
