If anyone hasn't ever visited this subreddit, please save yourself the pain. Essentially it is a socialist subreddit that hates on our current capitalist system and claims that "late stage capitalism" does not work. Do you think that there is any merit to what they are saying or are they just lazy and ignorant? upload_2017-7-1_11-47-51.png

Hell no theres no merit. To me, most of these anti-capitalism/free education/$15 an hour types, are people who have realized that their lives arent going to be as grand as they hoped. Because of their lack of talent or drive, they know that their quality of life will be pretty low, so they cling to these little movements to feel like they are part of something, and "break the system" which will ultimately put them on equal footing with the people that they despise.
Most of the time, they haven't thought things all the way out.

I've endured a few minutes on that sub, I saw one article about bananas that were being wasted because they didn't meet a certain regulation. I think the point was valid that capitalism has some inefficiencies, but the conclusion that it's a failing system is completely wrong. There was no mention of the literal train loads of food that went to waste under a communist system.

Not gonna lie, that kind of shit disgusts me. One of the most annoying parts is the free education.

It's like - bro. You have free education. It's called the internet. Why in the f*ck should someone else pay for you to go and learn about how even though your friend Samantha has a penis Xe is still a lesbian.

I just confused myself.

You know, socialist, extremely liberal-leaning, and similar groups/subreddits don't bother me. You see problems in the world and you want them fixed. That's cool. I'm not going to freak out because your opinions differ.

You know what bothers me? Their hypocrisy. Their lack of action.

Once, I read a thread about a girl's boyfriend who refused to get a job because he didn't want to help prop up a corporate environment. Or something to that effect. And I really enjoyed the responses to the thread.

It was completely fine to think that. But, how was he using his time? Was he volunteering at local charities? Providing his time to the poor? Hell, was he at least trying to make art that captured the essence of the struggle?

Or was he dicking around? Living off his girlfriend's work. Hint: When she said she was going to quit her job for the same reason (to test him) he threw a fit. Said she was irresponsible, childish, etc.

Voicing opinions within an echo chamber is not helping.

Regardless of your beliefs, if you're just reciting the same shit to your echo chamber, you're not doing anything.

You support Planned Parenthood? Good. Donate.
You want the environment to be saved? Write for a nonprofit, send them a few extra dollars, etc.
You believe the poor need help? I'm sure a local food pantry or soup kitchen wouldn't mind a helping hand.

If you can scrounge together an extra ten dollars, then you can donate to a cause you believe in. If you have literally no money, that's fine. You have sweat to give.

I'm not saying that government shouldn't be involved in supporting their causes. The forum isn't the place to discuss that. But, sharing a bunch of memes or articles from "socialistamericaisbestamerica.freedom" to your echo chamber is not going to help.

You want to spread information about your cause? Pick up books on P.R., marketing, readTrust Me, I'm Lying, and learn how to wage a war of information and public opinion.

I'm not saying don't read and share articles. Or not to protest (that's your right as an American!). But I'm saying don't stop there. If you want to see change, you're going to need to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

There are over 100,000 subscribers to Late Stage Capitalism. If, given half a year, they each saved up five dollars, then they would have the ability to donate half a million to the cause of their choice.

--
In the words of a friend, "I am, of course, generalizing." I'm sure that plenty of the people on that subreddit give their time, sweat, and money to causes. Just as people on the other side of the spectrum will both be lazy and unhelpful, and productive and charitable.

I'm in the pacific northwest where this mindset is rampant....I'll guess that at least half the kids in that photo are already attending university on their parents' dime.

There is no merit to their position and nothing to gain by exposing yourself to it. I don't recall the origin of the quote and I'm only repeating from memory so my apology to the speaker but "there is no one more crippled than the 'well rounded man' in these troubled times." Spoken around the time of the French Revolution. Point being, you listen to the "other side" too much and you lose sight of your own vision. The theory that everybody has something to add and all sides are valid overlooks the obvious truth that some people are wrong, stupid, malicious or otherwise best ignored.

Leave these dipshits to their dipshittery. I won't poison my mind by reading that crap and I invite you to do the same.

I was getting ready to comment the same exact thing, word-for-word pretty much.

Capitalism (and admittedly the government in the case of some libraries) provides all the free education in the world, and they still condemn the system that gives them exactly what they claim to want.

More often than not, these types of people seem intellectually lazy and suffer from a severe case of confirmation bias in place of actual, objective knowledge. Otherwise, a little economics and/or philosophy would go a long ways to curb this type of thinking.

If they really value free education so much, they should've tried harder in grade school while they were getting their free education. With a little bit of effort throughout high school, many will find their education will continue to be free (or nearly free) throughout college with the abundance of grants and scholarships available. And if that's not the case, one can go to a cheap community college, excel, and transfer to a 4 year university on the cheap, again because of grants and scholarships.

Like that's what I really don't get. The system as it is set up now, for the majority, is great. If you really value education, you can continue it for next to nothing. But if you show that its not important to you by not trying in high school, they won't further subsidize your education past 18. Why should they?

Sure, maybe fastlane isn't for everybody. But there are so, so many slowlane paths available now to the masses that standing in the street (or should I say, on the sidewalk, cough cough) with a sign in your hands is extremely futile. For most of us in first world countries, the world is as abundant as ever with opportunity: why stand around wasting it?

This plan has been in place since the 1960's. This is the work of the old Soviet Union. For those that are too lazy, it is ideological subversion to communist ideals. The students are part of a different "script"

Most countries in the industrialized civilized world have free education. If America provided free education with money from their military budget, they would still have a military budget over 3x times larger than the next biggest.

Internet provides a wealth of knowledge buried deep in a sea of garbage, and most have no clue how to understand what's true and what's not.

Socialism is an ideology of failure. As in, it preaches it, it prescribes it, it exalts it.

I admit I often go on these boards to have a laugh.
One of my favorites is r/socialism, where 90% of threads involves some guy commenting with cognitive dissonance and some expert of the community chiming in with the right piece of theory (propaganda) to resolve the conflict about what would happen in "real socialism".

It's hilarious, you just can't take it seriously.

They obviously have never read (or heard of):

Ludwig Von Mises "Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis" which can be downloaded for "FREE" at mises.org

or about the Soviet Union (didn't work) or Venezuela (currently not working).

They could look at this list of current and former countries declaring or using socialism in one form or another (they could move to any of them and try it out):

List of socialist states - Wikipedia

The four Marxist-Leninist countries (China, Cuba, Laos and Vietnam) are some of the most corrupt countries in the world. Their socialist system was failing miserably and they decided to implement a capitalist economy with socialism (complete bullshit and economically impossible). The Chinese can't get their money and kids out of China fast enough, Cuba is trying to open up but will have to deal with the United States who would love another territory similar to Puerto Rico, Laos is so poor no one cares, Vietnam is being taken over by the Chinese with money and is a mess (I was just in Hanoi and Saigon).

I love the word "FREE"... When they were growing up they received "FREE" shelter, clothing and food (parents paid). They also received "FREE" education from K-12 (parents or neighbors paid property taxes).

Then there's the litany of "FREE" government programs they might be utilizing:

Negative income tax (tax credits), SNAP, housing assistance, SSI, Pell grants, TANF, child nutrition (school lunches), Head Start, job training programs, WIC, child care, LIHEAP or Lifeline (All paid for by their parents, neighbors, friends (ha, ha if they work) and US).

Back to trying to add value and help other people...

I disagree. You can find great websites with great and useful knowledge rather easily... just one quick google search will bring up Khan Academy, Udemy, and many others. People are still paying for other people to go to college regardless of how you spin it.

Shouldn't that be the point of an education? "Free" or not, this is what I wish was being taught.

What about doctors, engineers, educators, scientists ... that's not the kind of stuff that you can learn on a free website. Also, don't you think that nurses, fire fighters, police, truck drivers, garbage men, teachers, ... should earn a decent income?

Education is "free" in my country. But with 70% of our education being totally irrelevant and useless in our society, it's imo a waste of money. We have more psychologists, communication scientists, political experts,... than we need, and more to come.

I studied for teacher (history and geography), but never did this profession. I started working in a complete different industry, and started completely different businesses as well. They all have nothing to do with my education.

My life would not be different without a degree.

Another thread on the same topic.

Slowlane - Top post on Reddit today

If you have an internet connection or access to a library, education is already free. But don't tell these children that.
Try telling my college peers that!
I found Chris Gullibeau's 100 buck startup, George Soros biographies, Richard Branson's Losing my Virginity (f*cking good detailed read of his adventures in business), John Hopkins, and many more books in my own college library.
Guess what...no one touched them! Everyone was hooked on their A-levels study materials!

I know because those books looked old af.

I made time for these books by reading snippets after every half an hour or so of studying. Still got decent grades.

Sorry. just because people know something, it doesn't means that they will take action even if it were to save their skin.

I'll vouch for that.
I checked the Finance shelf at the local bookstore the other day and I saw that the RDPD books were all parked on one WHOLE f*ckING shelf.
Ir's nuts. I'm not a retail expert, but I know if a shelf is parked full of a certain series of books, there's demand for it clearly. The whole series is kindergarten fluff for wealth building. And yet grown ups with degrees are buying that.

It's funny you mentioned 'more political experts then we need'...
I commented on the North Korean issue on Quora and got 15 upvotes in a day or so without having a politics degree....lol

It's not a waste of money. It's a waste of time, an ultimately, YOUR LIFE.
Talk about killing yourself slowly...akin to suicide. Gives me the chills writing this.

The thing is you can learn a lot of what you listed online but you can't get the necessary credibility that comes with going to an institution to land a job. Of course I think it is necessary to go to college sometimes, but for those purposes there are many scholarships and loans are an option if you want it.

It is just my opinion that an individual shouldn't be forced to pay for what is ultimately another individual's decision - especially for the majority of useless college degrees.

I would, however, not be completely closed off from the idea of limited support to STEM and Healthcare fields. It would just depend on the details and the overall costs to the taxpayer.

One of the worst humans in history. I wouldn't touch his book either.
In terms of overcapitalisation I agree.
But the books on him which recount his shorting and defeating of the bank of England was a spectacular read. He was not the only one doing it. He was the bigger winner because he bet billions while other bet millions.

I didn't read it for the finance, but I read it to understand some of the reasoning behind rich people, good or bad.

Very interesting that they're all posting on phones/computers created by the innovative drive of capitalism. And using an ISP(company), posting to reddit(company.) That sign in the image was done at a print company. It's it also strange that they're not wearing tattered and worn clothes? They're all dressed fairly nice, no? Picture is taken with a camera(and or phone.) I just see a bunch of ignorant kids that will eventually get smacked in the face by reality when they're no longer living on their parents dime.

The entire ideology is just hatred and jealousy.

That's it.

No solutions except for "let's take a bunch of money from these people, and - WAIT FOR IT - give it to these other people."

What happens after that?

"Uhh I guess we just keep on doing it." - because this isn't sustainable whatsoever.

What if the first group doesn't want to participate?

*Cue human rights violations and absolutely horrifying atrocities of murder and violence*

How can a group that screams so loudly about sustainability support something so unsustainable?

How can a group that screams so loudly about social justice and "rights" be so opposed to those very same things?

We all know that everything breaks back down into trade and the free market. Look at post-communist countries.

If anything, there should be a sub called "late stage socialism."
