I knew a guy that had a Sterling. It was orange & had a 914 engine, pretty cool back then. I have the sales brochure on it & a few others like the Bradley GT. I was just a kid then, & wrote the companies for info & most sent it.

Oh my god, you guys have some amazing cars. Damnit!
Its weird because normally I just randomly see these cars in the city.. Never thought I'd "meet" people who really drive these things.

My new daily driver. Park it in the teachers parking lot almost every day unless it is raining really hard. Bought it in January. I did the install on the stereo. Fosgate and Infinity all around with a kenwood blue-tooth receiver.

I keep toying with the idea of getting another Mercedes...I might be able to go another year before I say screw it.

I'll probably end up with either an E55 AMG, or CL55 AMG. I want something fairly new and fast.

OTOH I might just get the diesel since those are better; it would be nice to have one 30mpg vehical in the garage.

Always good to hear the Kenwood name.

I was the acoustic designer of Kenwood's North American Product Testing sound room (in Long Beach).

They liked it so much they built a portable version for electronics shows.

Good times. :)

Ahh a 3rd gen SOHC sure beats my non-running garage ornament ;)

On the plus side though, helped an old friend today fix his 99 VR4(and got to drive it :coolgleamA:) and for helping he's gonna give me the Kormex tranny from his 92 :hurray:

As for the car I will own- after some of MJ's stories about the Lambo and how it's lost its luster as well as Kenric's statement that you don't know your dream car until you've actually driven it, I'm not sure if I'll ever own an exotic, however, it doesn't mean I won't drive exotics, can you say track day at the Nurburgring or Daytona in a rented exotic :coolgleamA:

I actually like the 911 turbo and ferrari 360s. But, I've always liked the SL500 and decided to go with a convertible because here in AZ I can drive it with the top down 365 days a year. It's a really great car and at the current prices it's a steal. However, maintenance is very expensive.

A Mercedes is always a good choice.

Its not much of a concern where you live, but where I live in the land of frost heaved road's, 911's are a bit hard ridding.

I had the use of a newer 911 Cab for a couple of weeks a little while back and OMFG I thought my teeth were going to come out on some of the roads we have around here. 19in wheels didn't help either. R129's and 230's ride A LOT better on our crap roads.

Other than that it was fantastic, Porsche's rock.

Agreed. It's the only reason we passed on a MBZ vert 2 years ago. There were some really good deals on some of the MBZs w/hotter engines-- but the service costs were flat out obscene.

This is mine, am looking to get something better. But of course that will have to wait until I can afford to treat myself when the business picks up :)

I do most of it myself, filters and fluids are silly simple on Merc's. On the newer cars you can read a lot of the commen codes with a cheap OBD2 scanner.

I have the special aluminum filter cap wrench, thats really the only special tool you need to change the oil. On my old ones I only needed a 13mm open end to do it. MB made the nuts on the filter housing the same size as the drain plug.

The older ones are a blast to work on, the quality and thought that went into them is amazing. They were built to be repaired, leaps and bounds different than mortal cars. Where say Chevy or Toyota uses cheap freaken plastic clips to hold something on, MB uses machine screws. Costs a few cents more but you can remove scews. The W126 and W140 series are really something. MB spent $1B dollars in early 90's money designing the W140 to perfection. It took them 5 years of sales to break even on R&D costs! MB used to spend money in areas that people normal don't see, but really counted. For example the W126's interior is made out of aluminum covered in vinyl. Where as most cars today even very expensive cars use plastic backing for all their interior panals. Mercedes used aluminum because it's more durable. After 20 years you can take an aluminum panal out, recover it and put it back in. vs snaping junk plastic.

Its still the only car that I don't have a problem buying with 150k-200k miles on the clock. 100k miles is break in, they do start to get kind of worn after 20 or so years and 300k-400k miles. Although people keep them up and get a lot more out of them, I know guys with 700k miles on them. The older ones are like aircraft, as long as you keep after them and keep rust away they will last forever. The currant G wagon's are still built to that standard.

I'm a GM man myself. I drive an Escalade, bought a Denali for my wife about 4 months before oil hit $140 a barrel. I guess that timing gives me NO ability to recommend a vehicle to anyone.

most of you have really lovely cars! i'm glad we are not just money/business peeps out here, but car peeps too. :)

my car is nothing to write home about, it's a 1990 Lexus LS400 with 242k miles. Got it a few years ago for $2,500 with 167k miles. Trying to get it to 300k miles before I get something else.
