Yesterday I was writing a passage where I wanted to convey a lot of fear, anxiety and adrenaline. I couldn't write anything convincing when I was in my default state, but after I drank some coffee, put on some ominous music and dimmed the lights - it started coming out.

Do you do anything to induce a mood that matches what you're writing about?

While I've written copy, I'm completely new to short stories, so I wanted to see what the more experienced writers here do.

Copywriting is all about research. Same applies to fiction writing - you get ideas from reading other people's work.

Your mood-inspiring practices might extend to drugs and alcohol which is unsustainable in the long run. Create a system that is conducive to your creative process.
