Just got back from the CES in Vegas
and thought I'd share a story about it.
There was an event that I wanted to attend,
a very exclusive event
limited to 60 small business owners with an American Express Open Card.
Now being from Canada,
I didn't have the card (not available here).
I couldn't apply for the card (no social security number).
However, I still wanted to attend.
I ask some of the folks working the NBC booth.
No one would help me (said it was very limited)
but I did hear when and where the event was
and made some contacts.
I emailed the moderator.
He emailed back, saying basically "good luck with that"
to which I replied "no guts, no glory."
I showed up at the event, hubby in tow,
dressed to impress,
and went to talk to one of the organizers.
She said "look, I can get you into the cocktail party before
but I can't promise you anything else."
Went to the cocktail party.
Hung out with Fortune 500 CEO's and some small business folks,
yapped with the moderator,
making some awesome contacts and getting the laughs.
By the time the event rolled around,
we had reserved seats.
LOL
Why am I sharing this?
Because if you want something,
really, really want something,
then there are always ways to obtain it
but none of these ways include sitting on your duff,
waiting for it to come to you.
I'd love to hear your own stories about being shameless.
If you don't have any...
well, then odds are
you're playing it too safe.
