If you cruise the car boards you've probably seen this already:

An 18 year old was posting about his new 2008 M5 and how he had trouble shifting at high speeds on this thread.

"Alright guys Im new here and I have a question....as I am driving in m mode with the car set in p500 sport and everything set to max, as I shift with the paddle shifters it sounds like the transmission is banging into gear,(like there is a thud that comes from the trunk when I upshift.....) could this be due to the way Im shifting or is this normal....and if so is there any trick to working the shift

Let me say I am beginner when it comes to high performance cars as I am only 18 so take it easy on me."

Sadly, his last post was last night:

"Thanks guys, dont get me wrong I never said I didnt respect your wisdom....thanks for the welcome and I am looking foward to getting to know you guys better..

Fiery crash kills 5 young men

"Ammirato was driving his father's gray 2008 BMW M5 sedan. The $80,000 car, registered to Santo Ammirato, was traveling north on the 1.5-mile-long airstrip that actor John Travolta and others regularly use to fly in and out of Ocala.

Florida Highway Patrol Capt. Jeff Succi said there were yaw, or sideways, skid marks at the end of the runway, indicating the car turned sideways before launching over an embankment. It then sailed through the air about 200 feet before slamming into a large tree and bursting into flames."

That's terrible. I was just browsing the forums on that site, and I started reading some of his posts. It's really tragic, especially because of all the shit that people put him through in questioning his authenticity.

Very sad. Hopefully, I'll keep this in mind when I begin to drive. I'd like to think that I'd never be that careless, but ya never know...

Yankees, I did think of you while reading his posts. Yup, we all think we are 'smarter' than that, but peer pressure (and possibly alcohol, they said they were still waiting for results) is very tough to deal with.

I recall being 19 and driving my friend to his house. Of course we were all wasted after drinking just too much (in my country the legal age to drink is 18). The next morning I couldn't remember where my friend lived or how I got there, or how I made it back home. A friend told me the next day I drove around the city like a maniac and ran red light as others dare me to do it. That was an awakening for me. From that day I stopped drinking and driving, but I could have kill my friends and my self that night. And I used to think "how stupid people that do that", go figure.

Yeah...I don't really have a problem with being a designated driver. I like to have fun, but I'd rather have everyone be safe. Luckily, we also have a taxi service in town that's not too expensive, so that also works if nobody wants to be the DD.

I think you just gotta plan for it. I don't usually drink enough to get that messed up...I mean I don't usually drink at all...:smx3:

But seriously, I think you just gotta plan ahead. If you think you'll drink, don't drive and designate someone. It's pretty simple. Or give someone your keys and trust that they won't return them to you if you're not sober enough to drive.

Poor guy, driving while intoxicated is just plain silly. Yet again while your young I guess it is easy to get caught up into peer pressure ...
