I just recently made a Reddit account just as another tool to hopefully find some decently useful stuff but I have no idea where to start. Those of you who used Reddit on here, what kind of accounts/pages or whatever to you find give you the most value?

Reddit has some of the best, most informative hobby sections on the internet.

Other then that, it's a black hole. Even the small business focused sections are FILLED with anti-success nutjobs (yeah, figure that one out...)

Reddit is largely young, highly liberal, college/uni kids and highly jaded older geeks. They love hating on anyone who breaks the mold and will happily point out that any success story is an outlier and not indicative of typical results. They LOVE a good failure story though because it falls nicely in line with their strong belief in the "world is out to get you and there's nothing you can do" narrative.

Go check out the /r/entrepreneur section - the one place on the whole site that should LOVE fastlane ideas, and you'll quickly find that almost everyone there has nothing better to do than point out why every good idea is a scam, why it won't work, why it's overly optimistic, how it's pushing an agenda, etc... the ones that aren't shitting on the ideas are asking the dumbest questions imaginable ("how can I do this without a credit card?" "Can I make this work without paying the monthly fee?" "how do I get a UPC for free?" "is this risk free?")

Save your mind, stay away from reddit unless you are researching something related to a hobby.

But take it with a grain of salt, because a lot of what's given as advice constitutes primarily of slow lane mentality.

Reddit is awful. I have an account, but I mostly browse /r/conspiracy, a few gun subreddits, and a large political subreddit based on the current POTUS. It's just a way for me to keep up with my hobbies. Reddit doesn't really add any actionable value to my life. This forum adds lots of value.

And as a @JAJT said, the Entrepreneur subreddit is trash. Here are some funny thread titles on the front page right now:

"If I develop an app for the company I work for, how do I go about profiting?"
"Start Locally VS Going Global"
"As I enter this entrepreneurial culture I'm grossed out by the capitalist excess. Billion dollar this and Billion dollar that."
"How do you start a dropshipping business without registering as a company?"

Mostly wantrepreneur trash and dropshipping stuff. I'd just avoid Reddit altogether.

Are we really talking about other "Fastlane Forums" on the Fastlane Forum??? You have all you need right here. More content is not your solution. Maximizing the content that you have is.

Threads on reddit particularly r/entrepreneur almost ALWAYS have an ulterior motive. There are some gems on there esp if you can read between the lines and discern which ones are trash. And even with an affiliate or course link, there are some truthful statements.

Reddit is where people go to get subscribers and sell their stuff very discreetly. It's where being "transparent" is rewarded so theres a lot of really crafty posts with good value are found but there will be a subtle link to a fb group, a link to a mobile app skin, a "list" of great tools (where one of them is yours) embedded somewhere. Sometimes 1 or 2 steps away.

It's an inherent flaw to the reddit voting system. Its entirely based on popularity and superficiality, which means usually the gullible or the superficial upvotes will prevail. A lot of passer-bys. And if you have a top thread with a lot of doubters, the sheer # of readers will mean there will be a certain % of redditors who will argue you are telling the truth and want more info.

A forum is a platform for communication, reddit commenting system isnt really designed for that. Much more stable community based way of communication.

Reddit actively censors (both paid admins and volunteer mods) many things that do not fit their narrative, a narrative which includes anti-business and socialistic themes. The double standards are frightening. I doubt you'll find anything there that coincides with a Fastlane philosophy other than some random nuggets found in the /entrepreneur category.

From an advertising perspective, their hobby sections are worthwhile if you're looking to reach a targeted genre.

and a large political subreddit based on the current POTUS.

A pede eh? I'm BTFO!! ;)

Hey man, I frequent reddit and let me tell you it's all about being "safe" and 401ks there, BUT since you asked accounts aswell I spent 10mins searching and found this gem. overview for localcasestudy

He's a reddit user that "made it" and also talks about 'wantrepreneurs' and such. Seems like he does a lot of start up and actually practices what he preaches. His posts are about actionable practical ideas, how to NOT be a wantrepreneur which make me think he read MJ's book.

Churn, baby, churn! • /r/churning

Feast your eyes. An entire thread dedicated to getting rich by opening banks and credit cards for a few dollars in bonus points at a time.

How do I know about this, you ask? I once sat in a Chase branch for over an hour to get a $50 account sign up bonus as long as I got my direct deposit there for a year.

Genius.

I'm still working on Mrs Gman to ingrain the idea that time isn't free, especially after I drove her all the way to Ft. Worth one Saturday to save $1/lb on coffee.

In the universe of problems a guy can have, a frugal wife is a small one to complain about, so I'm taking it slow :clench:

In my experience, this is something which is rarely overcome. While a sidewalker will spend big regardless of income, a slowlaner will spend little regardless of income.

Reddit.com/r/sales has the closest thing. Quite a few successful b2b reps (Oracle, salesforce,etc..) make xxxk/yr and some business owners.

Though it's not sexy at all. No one making the next instagram billionaire app. Just a bunch of guys running around grinding and selling. Quite a few guys talk about starting their own businesses after doing sales for a few years.

Then there's wallstreetoasis.com. It's a Wall Street Forum with a lot of very high level business talk.

Some subreddits gave me good advises about copywriting like r/copywriting, r/advertising etc. and this is why I am building my profile while building my skills in copywriting.

And the last time I checked the copywriting subreddit, I have stumbled on books that I needed.
