Hi All,

I'm excited to join the forum! I've been practicing law for about the past 9 years. I've hated most of it. I'm not sure if there is another profession that is quite as stressful and boring. But my student loans are mostly paid now.

For most of my adult life I've struggled with what I want to be when I grow up. Even law was more of a "I'm not sure what else to do, and if I do law, at least I will be somewhat 'successful.'"

Anyway, I've been trying to figure out what I wanted to after law. I read TMF a couple of years ago and it really clicked with me. It helped me see that entrepreneurship is what I want to do when I grow up. I started a small Amazon business that has had some mild success. It brings in some cash, but really isn't scalable. (And yeah, I realize that the element of control isn't there, but I've got some experience points from my Amazon ventures).

I'm 39 years old and am married with three young kids. The company I was working for as a lawyer is struggling and I didn't survive the last round of layoffs. That is fine with me. The company and my boss were good to me, but I probably stayed there for a few years longer than I should have. I haven't been looking for a new law job. Frankly, I don't even think I could pretend to be interested in the law enough to interview.

I was laid off on Friday, and this is my first day working as an entrepreneur full time. My #1 thing to accomplish today was to join this forum.

My plan is to continue the Amazon business to bring in cash, but not really try to grow it. I am not exactly sure what type of new venture I want to start, but it will probably be something in ecommerce. I am very blessed to have my wife's 100% support. She comes from a family of entrepreneurs, so that probably helps. She probably also doesn't want to hear me bitch about practicing law.

Anyway, this is getting way too long. Thanks in advance for your help on my journey. I plan to be a regular on the forum and hope that as I learn I will be useful to others here.

I plan on posting and starting a progress log tomorrow.

Best,

Dave
