Whoever said Filezilla is full of virus's is lying, I use it at my office and we've never had any problems. Get it from here: https://filezilla-project.org/

It's certainly #1.
Maybe there is a difference with the client download and the server download option. I just want to see what people are doing. And yes I'm looking at the sourceforge download page.

What are you trying to do with it? Large files, multiple files, automatic transfers? And Mac or PC? If your needs are simple and you are on a mac you can do what you need to through Finder.

PC; Automatic transfers. Going to build a website starting with html/css, then java. The files should be small.

I was about to use Filezilla but I heard it's full of viruses. What do you guys use?

I can confirm that there's all kinds of spyware on shady download locations of this software.

We have used it successfully on 3 Macs. PCs were the problem.

I use CuteFTP - has worked well for me for many years; if not that, I go command line.

I'm using FileZilla for years now and never had an issue. Make sure to download it right from the developer's site and not from Sourceforge.. they merge free goodies like FileZilla witch 'crap-ware'

I use it all the time, it's not full of viruses.

There's one important thing that you need
to do:

Do not ever save your account passwords
on your ftp software. Type the passwords
everytime you access your server.

Why?

Because your credentials are stored in
plain text on your computer.

And there are viruses which look for
these FTP credentials on your computer. They
steal your passwords and then hack your
website.

Use whichever ftp software you like, but
don't save your passwords on your ftp
software. Type the passwords by hand everytime
you login.

No I use a PC. You just need to make sure you don't install any of the garbage adware that places like sourceforge will sneak into the install. All you have to do is decline it or get it from another source.

Why use ftp at all.

Why not use a git repository then just ssh into the server and clone your project the first time then pull the repository for changes to update later.

If something is screwed up you can revert immediately to any past version you want. It's a lot simpler and faster.

Version control is awesome, and you can learn it really fast.

If you choose to use FTP make sure you use SSL, otherwise your begging to have your site hacked.

If you like FTP like functionality you could also look into something that can connect by SCP which is encrypted. Not sure if FileZilla can use SCP protocol or not.
