Hey guys,
was geht ab?! I want to create my website right now and I want it to be my place for the sells. A friend recommended "Wordpress" - an option to create easily websites if you have no idea how to do it. But because it is so easy and everybody with a little bit time could do it -

IS WORDPRESS A VIOLATION OV THE COMMANDMENT OF ENTRY?

If yes I would need to find something else or to actually learn how to program a website - opinions?

Thanks for your time, Flo

Hey Florian,

Building a decent website on WordPress is pretty easy, and I'd recommend WordPress any day.
However, whether you're violating the commandment of entry depends on what you're selling, not on your website.

If anyone can sell your product and set up a shop in a day, then yes you are violating the commandment of entry.

For example,

1. You sell T-shirts on a WordPress site = You violate of the commandment of entry.

2. You sell customised electric screwdrivers for use on oil rigs in the Northern Sea on a WordPress site = You don't violate the commandment of entry (you might violate the commandment of need tho).

Anyone can set up a WordPress site and sell stuff online, that's true. But what's important is what your selling, not whether it's on WordPress or a site that you coded from scratch.

Good luck!

I'd say it's more a violation of Control and Scale. Sure, anyone can make a Wordpress website - but can you make one that sells or captures leads? If so, go ahead. However, with WP you're somewhat limited to the Control and the Scaling of your WP site as it's confined to the theme (unless you know php).

It's not a bad alternative if you don't have the funds or the know-how to create one from scratch.

Wordpress is a great place to start. Hell, my site is starting via Wordpress right now.

When you're looking at the barrier of entry, @TheKing hit the nail on the head. The way you build your site has nothing to do with entry, it's what you put on there.

If you're going to make a blog and hope you get Adsense dollars... you violate the hell out of Entry.

@TheKing Thank you I now understand it better!

@KSR Yeah i see the violation of control - its because so I can get started quicker. I guess it is smart to learn how to program for the longterm but right now I just use it as a tool for more speed. But why is it a violation of scale? I still can market that shit and my clients are potentially all germans (later all english speeking people) so why is it a violation of scale? :)

@Scot No I want to create a comparative portal for PU - Coaches

Thanks to you all! :)

I feel it's a violation of Scale because WP is pretty limited to how it functions, if you want to add a certain specific functionality to your e-Commerce store; there may be a plugin for it, but it won't necessarily have all the features that you're looking for.

Whether, if you're developing your own Website, the world is your oyster and YOU are the one with Control.

I see and yeah having my absolute own website defenitely would be much better but should I really take those 2 months to learn how to program instead of taking the time for my business? Isn't that procrstinating? Grant Cardone (author of The 10X Rule) says that successful people do it first and figure it out later.

Anyways big thank you to you!

I'm by no means saying don't build a WP site, shit - I've made plenty of those haha! I'm just saying which CENTS rules it violates. However, there's no saying that you can't hire a developer to build a custom one for you when this one blows up ;).

All the best mate!

Thank you, sir! But hiring a developer is a violation of the control - rule. I would always have to ask him to do every little change. There is no differnece between a defeloper and WP - except that WP is free. do you see what I try to say? :)

The "Control" rule isn't about if you do the work yourself.

"Control" is about whether Someone more powerful than you can easily destroy everything you've built.

We're all vulnerable to nuclear wars, Great Depressions, earthquakes, etc.
Aside from that, though, you don't want to have Someone who can Change the Rules On You.
A Boss who can fire you or deny a raise.
A "MLM Company Owner" who can cut your commission in half.
These violate Control.
That's what Control is about.

If you're doing all the work yourself, that actually may be a violation of the Time commandment.
Using a specialist to do your dirty work *can* be a smart thing to do if it saves you Time.
And you still Control the finished product.

EDIT: Adding a few more examples of Control Violations:
  • A Single Giant Customer that provides 80% of your business revenue.
  • A Single Source of Marketing / Advertising that provides 80% of your leads.
  • Giving an employee Administrative Privileges (treasury access; computer systems; etc) without prior and continual vetting.
  • Any employee who is "irreplaceable."
  • Any 3rd-party Software System that is "irreplaceable."
  • Any Manufacturing Contract that only one factory in the world can fulfill for you.

No it is not. You're thinking too literally.
Btw. What do you think is the best book to learn about the market, stocks, financial intelligence in general (besides TheMillionairFastlane ;) )?

Hi @Florian!

Since I too have a WP site running WooCommerce, I just wanted to chime in on the discussion and tell you that most likely you will have to learn some CSS, Html and maybe a little PHP, depending on what you want to do.

Developers lure you in with the promise of easy, turn-key solutions but IME it never works out like that. You'll have to get your hands dirty eventually with WP, or hire someone to do stuff for you. But it's flexible for sure, I do both lead gen and sales and it works just fine for that. You could also do content marketing easily, since most themes revolve around blogs.

Good luck!
