That makes sense. It seems like people who just do a PR Release with a bland/average angle don't really get anywhere worthwhile with it.I have no experience, but I've prepped for a PR campaign that I want to do in 2021 and narrowed it down to PR Wire, but I would provide the release. I have no expectations of getting press with mainstream outlets, would be nice, but will using for moves inside my specific industry. Good luck and update us if you go with the campaign.
I do know someone who hired a PR firm to do more advanced placements and it went incredibly well. His first article was picked up by Complex and than like another 50 just took that article and republished it than it blew up his YouTube channel. He ended up getting in the NY Times print. Not sure the budget he used but pretty sure it was 5 figure plus to get this done. Helps he has a platform that he paid celebs to come on and the cause and effect of the PR and some big names brought the press.
Whereas the newsworthy angles or creative angles (eg. leveraging influencers/celebs) like your friend did make for a huge result.
Will do.
