Sooo... I just got an email from Parcelforce telling me my Raspberry Pi (micro-computer-the-size-of-a-credit-card-and-totally-awesome http://www.RaspberryPi.org) should be on my desk at work tomorrow morning.

As a bit of a business-minded geek and tinkerer, I'm rediculously happy right now and have a million ideas in my head... none-of which I'll probably follow through with! Why not see if any of these inspire you to a new fastlane venture?

Some Ideas:
  • In-car computer... usability of a laptop, built into the car for those stupidly long journeys.
  • Heads-Up Display (HUD) controlled and projected within vehicles. Compact design and much more easier to develop than raw circuit based designs or whole computers kept in the boot (trunk for you Americans ;))
  • Back seat gaming that won't cost the earth if it (or the vehicle) gets stolen / broken.
  • Computer sleeve for ultra-mobile computing on the go (military uses could be a spin-off avenue to look at).
  • mobile intelligent unmanned vehicles (cars, planes, helicopters, etc) for surveilance / IED early warning
  • AI robot wars (could be fun!)
  • Intelligent prosthetics for amputees.
  • A smaller, lighter computer/speech synthesiser for Stephen Hawking. :p

Any one else on the fastlane getting themselves one or own one? Got any ideas of what you're going to do with it?

Oh my god that thing looks cool. Too bad I don't know jack squat about programming or compiling in Linux.

Never too late to learn, I suppose.

(My 400th post, yay!)

Ha....funny you say that about the robot wars....my son and I were watching Real Steel last night and I mentioned he should grab a raspberry pi and learn how to program it so that he can hook it up to a robot(or an RC helicopter) and teach it to do some cool tricks.

Thanked, This is something I was drooling over when I first heard about it and I forgot about it after months and months of production delays.
