I don't want to hijack the other thread any more ( https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/co...to-form-nope-develop-any-habit-quickly.60179/ )

But I couldn't let the conversation die. It's rare to see something like this unfold in nature in real time.
The first post was a well-intentioned offering of information, followed immediately by doubt and resistance.
My trust alarms were going off like crazy.

I want everybody to take away a few important lessons.
This is a business lesson dressed up as silly internet politics.

OP said this:
I go to post something helpful and "your wording isn't right." It's like if I handed you a $10 bill and people were like "THIS MONEY IS FOLDED. I HATE FOLDED MONEY."

Interestingly, People don't just take money, or value, or advice, or anything.
We're irrational, but PREDICTABLY irrational. It's not just one or two people who get suspicious, it's all of them. It's programmed into them to be skeptical.

When you look at the animal kingdom, squirrels, birds, and dogs all prefer to work for their food, even if free food is available.

Knowing how these weird rationalities work is priceless. Internalizing such behavior is what makes sales people great. These lessons are all around you. Always be observing and always be learning.

I'm with you DennisDuty.

I enjoy when my friends give me grief for picking a penny up. They have no idea I'm just keeping my money mindset in shape :)

It's programmed into them to be skeptical.

With respect to people passing on a free buck, I see nothing unusual with this response. The guy is standing there with a clipboard and looks like a surveyor which implies there's strings attached. People come to the conclusion that the money isn't free, but will cost time... maybe a survey, a few questions, whatever.

Its all about the presentation, and this presentation made it appear the money wasn't free.

Cool topic

Its also true of "free value"
"Hey, I'll mow your lawn!"

Its better to be honest about your intentions and not have alterior motives that make people weary.

I think we fear social degredation more than not having money though.
I mean, when I was going through my crucible (and everyone has one) it was letting people down I was scared of, not being poor.
Now after facing that, I know my value extends beyond money, and that I can't let anyone down by being poor at some point, but that I'd rather not fall short on being able to pay to help people and stuff. I try to keep bouyant and effective and good natured.

I think everyone in some sense doesn't want to break down, they wanna be effective, not just rich.
And just TAKING isn't effective, cuz it kinda wastes time.

Similarly, I setup a website and AdWords campaign years ago.

I rang some companies to tell them I'd send the leads to them for free if they'd just tell me if they converted.

Not a single taker.

They couldn't get off the phone fast enough.

To them I sounded just like one of the many other SEO / PPC / Yellow Pages salesmen ... weirder probably.

Yea, for example when I read The Millionaire Fastlane , for the first 20 minutes I was reading the book I rolled my eyes like "alright cool... another BS Millionaire Get Rich book," but it actually turned out to be super legit.
