To all New-Yorkers on this forum:

FINALLY I'm fulfilling a dream!
I'm going to NewYork for 1 week in October.

It is my spiritual , entrepreneurial, solo traveller find my true self journey now that i'm at midst 30s.
( maybe I should go to Nepal but hey.... )

I want to experience NYC like a local, not at all like a tourist. I have 6 full days in the city and staying in upper east.

NY-ers I'd appreciate you for telling me:

- What absolutely to Do:

- What absolutely Not to Do:

- What to Eat:

- What to buy home:

- What to be careful about:

- What paradigm to ditch:

- What myth to not believe in:

- What area's to avoid:

- Etc.

Anything of value is appreciated!

ps. May we even meet each other if you're a Fastlane New Yorker !

Thanks a million for any inputs

If you're looking for Italian food, I highly recommend one of the best Italian Restaurants in NY - Don Peppe. In fact, go there straight from JFK instead of trooping into Queens from the city. I grew up in the area and although the area has changed(not the best), this restaurant still stayed the same. It's a hole in the wall and cash only. Don't have to get dressed up either, it's a local neighborhood joint but boy it is awesome. Growing up in Ozone Park, I was lucky enough to eat here all the time but now I live in NJ I don't get there all that often. You may even remember the restaurant from Entourage when turtle was trying to bring it to Cali. Make sure you tip your waiter well! This is NY ;) It's family style so come hungry!

I recommend the baked clams, linguine and clams for pasta, and Veal Don Peppe for main course.

I'd also recommend going into Brooklyn, particularly Williamsburg. Great time, gold bars, and restaurants.

The city isn't all what it's hyped up to be anymore.

Good luck!

Agreed with what ZeroTo100 said, you want "country" lifestyle go to westchester, troy, or Suffolk county long island. Little Italy is really nice too, but yea overall its not whats its cracked up to be, not the "American Dream" like people make it out to be. But it really is a great place for opportunities. Millions of people here like MJ said, impact millions, make millions
