Given what gas costs and the overall ease of shopping online, I don't see this affecting sales much.

Interesting, though.

But honestly, when I buy online, it's not usually from the big stores -- I usually just shop for the best price from a decently reputable site, like B&H or J&R, and it usually turns out just fine.

my question is it gonna only be for people who live in ny or all people ordering from ny based sites? and if sucessful how far behind do you see other states being in fallowing suite with ny?

I hope this doesn't spread to other states and this is another burden for the citizens of NY who are already paying so much taxes.

That article is pretty poorly written. The law has to do with retailers with affiliates (not "large retailers".) New York state is counting affiliates as the retailers doing business within the state, thus they are no longer exempt from collecting sales tax. A lot of states already "charge" sales tax on internet purchases, you just have to pay it directly yourself.
