Just found this program from a writers personal blog and I am in love. I searched here to see if anyone had posted about it but didn't find anything. It is a full screen word processor with nothing but a background and your text. No tempting web-browser or icons to see anymore.

The creator also has a cool program called NovProg which tracks how much you write and compares it to your goal.
It is free and licensed under GPL version 3.

Hopefully someone else enjoys it as much as I do.

Interesting. I wonder how compatible it is with Smashwords. I haven't attempted to format a book for Smashwords, but from the looks of it, it can take quite a bit of work if the original document was written in Microsoft Word with pre-formatting.

You can save in a few file types. TXT, basic RTF, and basic ODT file support is what it says on his site.

I use Scrivener and it does all this (and more) as well.

Has a full screen composition mode that blacks out everything else.

You can set document and/or daily word count targets.

Absolute beast of a program used by a lot of authors and screenwriters.

Costs $45 but well worth it if you do a lot of writing.

I'll have I look into that for sure. I've been way more productive since switching from OpenOffice to this.

This looks similar to a program I use called ZenWriter. For a little while there was a promotion where you could get it for free, not sure if you still can. This software seems to be the same sort of product, and that NovProg tracker sounds interesting.

I'm surprised you guys don't write in Wordpress ... I'm constantly saving drafts and updating the post preview so I can make sure everything is looking exactly how I want it while i'm writing.

Here's how to use Scrivener Composition mode to achieve the same effect.

http://www.thewatchmakerproject.com/post/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-scrivener-composition-mode/
Just downloaded the trial, might have to buy it. I really like it so far.

What I do like about FocusWriter is that you don't have to exit composition mode to edit, there is a hidden drop down bar. Not that big of a deal for anyone writing fiction though.

Sucks that I can't remove the scroll bar in composition mode. I'm on Windows.

I'm writing for a novel now, when I ran blogs I did write in the Wordpress editor.
