I had my first ever business call today.

I called a manufacturer and told him about the product I want to build. I had no idea how to describe it to him which made me nervous and I forgot everything I wanted to say. I just said that it would be the easiest to just send him some sketches of the product so he will better understand what I want.

After he received the sketches he called me back. He said that their company can build the product for me but there are some parts that someone else will have to make.

The part they can't make is made out of plastic material and so now I have to find a company that would be able to make it.

He didn't know who would be down to making only a few 100 parts at the start.
So I'm thinking about calling a 3D printer guy in my city and asking him if he can make the design of the part.

Does anyone reading have some experience working with plastic material, prototyping, communication with manufacturers.

How did you explain what you want to do? Did you use sketches or did you first made a complete design?

Just got the prices of part that I wanted to use.
It SHOKED me

For a small light like this (diameter 4,5cm; 1,7 inches):

You have to pay 42€ per piece if you order 100 so 4200€

Well it is the best of the best made in Austria...

How much would you pay for a light like that knowing that is the best there is?

Light bulbs are more or less commodity ( i don't know if there are any Philips hardcore fans).

But if that's specialists tool? Or can be a part of something that people can brag about then some may pay the price.

Like you might know that there are RAM sticks (part of a computer)
that their only feature better than other sticks that that they have RGB (colorful) lights. They give nothing better computer-wise - speed or size - but they are cool to show to your friends.

Yes true.
This is a signal light and would be used for that just in a different way with some added parts. I will have to prove that its worth it and I think its possible.

I hear rumors that with RGB gear you automatically become a better gamer.

So good news about the price.

I looked around the manufacturers site and found a better light for a better price.

This is how this one looks it is around 15 € cheaper so big win.

I have ordered a piece so I can start making a finished product.

I have also got in contact with a friend of mine that is studying industrial design.
