Negotiating exclusive rights

Despite setbacks and failures aplenty in my importing endeavors, I have finally found a few products that will sell and suppliers willing to work with me.

Now, I know that as soon as they start selling there will be a flood of copycats attempting to bring in the exact same product. I want to cut them off way ahead of time. I plan to do this by attempting to secure exclusive distribution rights for these products in the US.

My question is: How?

Has anyone else managed to pull this off? The businesses I am working with are small. Does that mean I can get them to agree by guaranteeing a certain amount of purchases from them per given time frame?

Please let me know if you have experience here.
