OK, so I literally just came up with this idea about sixty minutes ago but I'd love to know what everyone thinks.
Beer Pong is a popular game played during high school/college parties. I'm sure other members my age on the forum can testify to this. The game is played with ten cups lined up like bowling pins on each side of a ping pong table. Two partners are on each team and the point of the game is to sink the ping pong ball into each cup in order to win. There's other rules but these are the basic principles.
I went to the gas station a couple other days ago and I found plastic cups being sold with ping pong balls and I could only think about how smart the entrepreneur was to come up with this. It makes things convenient for a kid on the way to a party.
Although Peter2, Servicefly and other successful entrepreneurs have preached how it's not necessary to develop an entire new idea or try to reinvent the wheel, I’ve always doubted myself of being better than the other guy. I guess I think that if I don’t have an original idea I don’t bring much to the table.
But I’m thinking about combining this already fantastic idea of cups and beer pong balls and making my own twist. Students are generally crazy about branding from clothing to branded lanyards to hold their keys. I fall victim to this too.
So why not include beer pong balls with this as wel? I found 432 white ping pong balls on ebay for $25. My idea is to get them branded with things that are appealing to teens, like:
-A silhouette of Lil Wayne and his famous dread locks
-A silhouette of the guitarist Slash and his top hat and Les Paul
-A naked female silhouette (for the guys
)
-The other opportunities are endless!
I would also have my own company logo on the other side of the ball for branding.
My biggest hurdle is finding a way to get these brands and illustrations on the beer pong balls. I would need to send them to some type of printer that is delicate enough to not break the balls. Other minor hurdles are packaging and storage since I’m going to college in January, but I could get around these if the venture became lucrative.
I’d like to know what you think of this idea? I’ve literally just scribbled these ideas down on a piece of paper and then transferred them to this post. But it seems feasible, possibly lucrative and to me I feel like I have a good entrepreneurial premise with it.
Also, would anyone know of how I could get these balls/cups branded?
