Hello all of my unscripted friends,
My name is Nik, Im 23 years old and I am currently trying to build up a brand around "ADHD" (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), which I found out I had when I turned 20.
Ever since I got diagnosed, I realized that ADHD, especially in America, pretty much gets dragged through the dirt as a disorder that HAS to be medicated i.e. if you have adhd and arent medicated you wont amount to anything and you are definitelly at a disadvantage in comparisson to all of your other "normal" peers. The truth is, having adhd, if applied correctly, can actually be an advantage which is why I launched a youtube channel (now at over 11k subs) and a tiktok (over 100k), where I made it my duty to inform the misinformed.
Now, even though making money on youtube is nice (constant passive income though monetized videos..), you just dont make enough to fully facilitate financial freedom. Before I started reading "Unscripted " I was therefore pretty much on the hunt for money, instead of trying to solve problems. I had to laugh when MJ talked about selling teespring merchandise because thats literally what I started doing. Basically, I just didnt have an eye for the bigger picture where, even though Im currently working a full-time job in sales, I HAVE to put in some serious effort by analyzing PROBLEMS to develop solutions, to become financially free.
This is where my current idea comes in. I analyzed the top problems we adhders have which are: disorganization, procrastination and long-term motivation and came up with the idea of making/designing an ADHD Planner/Journal featuring weekly, motivational advice from successful people with adhd, life hacks, information and so on, all rounded up by a neat, adhd-inspired design that fits our brains.
Come to think of it, this idea was pretty much sparked by having read The Bullet Journal by Author Ryder Carroll, who has ADHD. Now, even though he (obviously) has developed a journal on top of this book, it doesn't really seem like a journal for us, but more for everyone. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I was personally just missing the ADHD references/tools.
Overall, my plan is to create a journal for and from the adhd community by constantly asking for and getting feedback on the structure and layout, building in a few requested slogans/pictures, to make this a product that was designed/inspired by the people that it is for. My only question now is how I got about doing that. I have a community who will and can contribute so I was thinking of making a gofundme page where e.g. 50 pages of the journal can be bought for people to bring in their own ideas of the design, which I will then try and facilitate. However, Im not yet sure if this is the right way forward because I want everyone to have a say, to make this a project people are excited for. What do you guys think? Im open to any advice you might have!
Great to be a part of this community.
