I agree for sites with little traffic
(I have AdSense on my travel blog 'cause the traffic is still low)
but the writer is suggesting AdSense for sites with good traffic.

If you have good traffic,
companies will approach you.
You can rent the space for cash upfront.

Yes, but it assumes that you can find the advertisers that are willing to pay. Then, you have to hope they do pay, plus get the benefit of the advertising to justify the continued expense.

The draw of Google is these activities are eliminated - you throw up a link-code and wholla, you have advertisers without the advertising management hassles that come with it.
