If you were going to go somewhere and start your life over, would you go to Las Vegas or Atlanta?

I grew up in Vegas and just moved back. Never been to Atlanta besides the airport. I may be a little bias, but I think Vegas has a pretty good bang for the buck, though it has gotten a little more expensive over the last few years. I think prices will go down a bit after this whole Coronavirus deal is over. Not sure what you do for work, but I think Vegas economy is going to be hit pretty damn hard considering casinos are probably the last place you want to be during a pandemic. When compared to other cities, Vegas has a lot going on for the price you pay to live here. If you look at other places with similar entertainment/nightlife, most of them are going to be $1500-2000 a month for a 1 bedroom. Vegas you can get a nice 1 BR for $1000 a month, resort style. In NYC or LA you’re looking at at least $2k a month for something similar, if not more.

Yea, my answer would be neither as well.

But if I had a gun to my head, Las Vegas.

I'm currently in the middle of the US, and I want to move to either the South West (AZ or NV) or the South East (GA or FL). I prefer the SW because the open space and sunshine looks more appealing than the snow and hurricanes I'm use to. The SE would be easier because I know the area, and there's more jobs.

If Florida is also an option, I’d personally recommend Miami. I’ve lived in Miami as well and loved it. I know there are a lot of people who don’t. There aren’t many places in the US where you get those kinds of beaches and such a great mix of cultures, food, and nightlife. Depending on how the future goes, I may end up back in Miami at some point. The people can be hard to deal with at times, but once you find your crew, it’s a pretty damn cool place.

Assuming you still had your seasonal disorder, where would you go in these two cases:
1) you can go anywhere in the USA
2) you prefer to go somewhere between Reno and Tucson

Anywhere in the USA, I would probably pay $1200 a month in apartment rent, between Reno and Tucscon I would stay in my RV and pay $500 monthly rent.

Not sure if you remember my story, but this is exactly what I did. I visited 6 US cities -- all of them sunny climates and then made a decision where I wanted to live. (San Diego, LA, Vegas, Tampa, Phoenix, Tucson)

Phoenix/Scottsdale won the contest, and it really wasn't a contest.

This was more than 20 years ago and it was the right decision.

Atlanta for me. It seems more urban, without living in either.

Currently, my top sunny living city choice is Houston :)

If I was in Harris County, I would be trying to leave.

I'm planning on moving within the next few months.

For me the process looks like this:

-Whats important to me for the location (eg. Climate, population density, real estate prices, safety, local laws and taxs, etc...)

-List out the areas I like the best.

-Road trip to visit the top areas of my list.

-Pick out the one I like the best

Just visit both, and see what you like better. I don't know much about America being Canadian, but I'd guess Vegas would be a fun place to live, just try not to ruin your life with questionable decisions under the influence of free booze in the casinos :D

I’ve moved from Virginia to South Carolina to Texas.. all with exciting possibilities.

You can google how many sunny/cloudy hours per year there are for any city. Combining that with population details, demographics and topography will give you some interesting things to consider.
I used to be very particular about all kinds of things - age demographics, race, income, and which cities were close to what.

I once used Google maps to find the only apartment in a whole city, a city 1400 miles away from me, that bordered a forest. I wanted my kids to be able to walk out of our apt building into trees.

We had a wild strawberry patch and when we threw pumpkin seeds.. we grew pumpkins! I couldn’t afford a house.. and didn’t want one per se.. but I found the perfect apartment. Lol.

Hint: it’s never EVER on the south side of any city!

It’s fun to start triangulating stores and distances and important stuff like playgrounds, museums, hiking, etc. For many years I swore I’d never move anywhere farther away from a Walmart than 2 miles.. because I adore suburbs.

Sounds weird right? But.. suburbs are my comfort zone. The one bizarre OCD habit I had was being able to go to the store and know where my favorite brands were. I had no qualms about moving across the country with less than 5k but going somewhere without a Walmart ?!?
Instant stress!

I’ve gotten past that quirky safety net but I’m sharing just to say.. sometimes it’s the littlest things that give you strength and keep you in a routine when you go to a new place.

Just like business goals.. if you can narrow down what’s important to you like what view you want or how long a commute you want or what type of educated/voting ppl you want for neighbors, it will get a lot easier.

I also like solving personality problems without using drugs. So... you gonna share what the personality problem is? Lol.

Vegas definitely. Atlanta would be one of the last cities I'd personally want to live in.

But for the other question, the only options for me would be New York or Europe. Maybe Los Angeles.

Phoenix is an option. I liked Nevada because drugs are legal. I don't take drugs, but I'm thinking of starting.
Isn't Colorado the medical marijuana place de jour?

I've narrowed my search down to somewhere between Tucson AZ and Henderson NV. I'm not interested in "Vegas" except for work possibilities, but I like the sunshine and openness of southern Nevada. Henderson looks like a normal place. Arizona looks like Nevada, except drugs aren't legal. There's more places to work in AZ.
