..I find out I may have cancer.
The last few months I've been away from the forum and have seriously worked on changing my life around with some success.
-I got accepted to university
-Started training for MMA (Muay Thai every second day, and I'm planning on starting BJJ)
-Started eating healthy and gained 10 lbs (I needed to badly)
And then just about a month ago I found a lump on my chest near the armpit. I had also been feeling feverish, was practically green in colour, lost some weight, and was extremely exhausted.
I went to the doctor, had a blood test, was tested for mono, etc.
The blood test came back negative for mono, but the doctor did find an elevated level of protein in my blood. He told me that the lump under my arm appeared to be just a cyst.
The doctor wasn't overly concerned about the protein results, but he sent me for another blood test to find out what specific protein is elevated and to get a better idea of the cause.
It could be anything from malnutrition, liver/kidney damage, to bone marrow cancer. Sometimes perfectly healthy people have this as well but that is rare.
What renders my results concerning however, is that I have since developped supraclavicular lymphadenopathy (oftentimes a sign of lymphoma/leukemia..which are the most common forms of cancer in young adults) as well as generalized lymphadenopathy. Lymphoma/Leukemia normally affect young adult white males. (I fall into all of the categories). I have quite a few of the other "general cancer symptoms" and the nodes are rubbery and painless, not soft (another usual indicator of lymphoma) I also have intermittent bone pain and have developped a strange bruise like pain on part of my skull.
I get my second blood test results this friday, I discuss my new symptoms with my doctor, and find out how we continue from there.
I've been feeling up and down, happy and depressed, had at least two dozen complete mental/emotional breakdowns.
It's tough not knowing what's going on, because something is definitely wrong, I just don't know how serious it is yet. Good news is that my weight seems to have stabilized and while I still have days when I'm quite tired and feverish, it's not even close to how bad I felt the first two weeks. (I couldn't even sit up straight I had to lay down)
Anyway, I'm letting you guys know that I haven't given up on thefastlane. Just going through the toughest few months of my life so far. (In three weeks I'm leaving most of my family and all of my friends behind and moving 1,800 miles away to go to university and start fresh).
All I can do is stay positive at this point and wait it out until I find out what's going on. I'll let you guys know what I find out on friday.
If it turns out to be nothing or something non-lifethreatning, at the very least the possibility of having cancer has drastically allowed me to put my true priorities in order. God forbid it is cancer, I'll deal with it then.
Thanks for reading,
Ryan
