Hey guys,

Been lurking here for ages, ex-military, I started with internet marketing 4 years ago, dabbled in some things, some failed(see my first thread) and some have worked (dental marketing, affiliate marketing).

Took breaks here and there but I knew to never stop.

But in the last year I've come to learn a lot about Instagram and growing accounts.

I currently run about 40+ accounts in different niches and creating new ones daily/weekly.

I have my own personal Instagram bot and in the last year I’ve amassed over 4 million+ followers spread out over my accounts.

I also lost a lot of big accounts(200-300k) at the early-mid stages of my Instagram journey.. due to testing how much you can push daily actions on Instagram (likes, comments, follow/unfollow, proxies, etc).

There is some serious money to be made on Instagram, I’ve already crossed into the 6 figures in profit this year promoting affiliate/cpa offers.

And to be honest that’s the most money I’ve ever made in my life but I’m not stopping here, we are all here for the fastlane!

Now I want to go about creating my own brands/ecommerce/offers.

So in a way to give back to the community, I thought I would help with any Instagram related questions.

And also is anyone else in here marketing Instagram succesfully?

*Pro Tip: If you guys are not on the Snapchat band wagon yet, you guys are definitely missing out! A huge percentage of my earnings came from Snapchat this year as well! The engagement on Snapchat is amazing. A large percentage of your followers will really do what you ask them to do(more so than instagram), whether it be go to this domain or follow this person etc. Snapchat is HUGE.

Jim,

What kind of $ are you spending monthly to promote and expand your accounts?

What is a good rule of thumb for what an account should charge for ads? (can you break this down. So say for 3 hour ad, 100k followers, would should be $50-200 for example)

Can you elaborate further on utilizing snap chat as a channel? Let's say I produce and sell silicone spatualas, how would you run a snap chat account for this.

Snapchat seems to have an even younger demo, is it really only useful for young girls and young boys (under 20).

Can you share and recommend some tools to grow accounts?

Thanks for sharing Jim

What kind of $ are you spending monthly to promote and expand your accounts?

I am not spending any money to promote or expand my accounts other then paying for proxy services which is around $46 a month to have them up and running, I grow them all through my bot.

I can't really say as I've never paid for shoutouts, but if you check http://featurehub.com/shop/ most of the big accounts on there are legit and that's what you can expect to pay.

But as I told @TheKing you should really work out a deal with the page owners for guaranteed followers, "so say you want 1k new followers, you would make a deal with the page owner to shout you out till you get the 1k followers." instead of paid hourly shoutouts. Contact them directly through kik or email.

Can you elaborate further on utilizing snap chat as a channel? Let's say I produce and sell silicone spatualas, how would you run a snap chat account for this.

Snapchat seems to have an even younger demo, is it really only useful for young girls and young boys (under 20).

What makes Snapchat amazing is it's like a private moment, a 1 on 1 sales channel.

The users don't know how many people are following you, they don't have any distractions (likes, comments, social pressure) all they see is what's being put right in front of them. And if you're a great marketer boy oh boy...

So for the spatula example, assuming you have spatula fanatics following you. This is like QVC in the palm of your hands..!

I would create stories revolving around the lifestyle of spatula users, cooking, baking etc. Stories of it in action flipping, lifting, spreading. Marketing 101, you show and record exactly what they can do with it. You talk about and show them why it's the best and why silicone beats the regular boring spatulas etc.

This is your private 1 on 1 channel right to your customers.

Then, every now and then you add a textbar with your BuyMySpecialSpatualaHere.com in your snaps.

You would not believe how many people exit the app and actually type in the domain(this is why I was hesitant with Snapchat at first, nothing clickable) but believe me they do! I've made x,xxx days in profit using Snapchat!

And another pro tip is having Snapchat takeovers. Basically a takeover is having someone famous or influential in your niche log into your account and do a "takeover" for the day and create stories for you. So in the spatula example, I would try my hardest to get the Queen Spatula on to promote/showcase my products.

From my experience everyone is on Snapchat nowadays. And it's only growing.

Can you share and recommend some tools to grow accounts?

Some of the more popular commercial ones are:
instagress, igerslike, and followliker

I created an account that I sell T-shirts on and it took about 5 months to get to 11.5k. Followliker has been a very good asset for growing quickly. I am having problems with conversions though. It seems like i'm always getting comments on how nice my shirts are and visitors to my site, but they don't convert well. My conversion rate is 0.3% aka horrible. What kind of settings do you use to grow your page and what are your most successful niches if you don't mind me asking?

If you want you can pm me and I can look at your page, see if I can offer any pointers.

I use nothing but "likes" nowadays, daily safe limit for me is 1900-2100 likes a day per account, anything over 2500 you would be putting your account at risk. I used to use "comments" but I manually just comment on a need to basis, makes it more authentic.

The key is to get your account big enough so it will have the drop down option of suggested users. I get tons of followers from the suggested users box. And a lot of my accounts are intertwined so they fall into each other's "suggested users".

The easiest niches to grow are humor, quotes, and anything related to girl demographics.

Most follow back just from the "likes" alone.

Easy way to come up with page ideas is to see what already works. For example, go to http://www.cheezburger.com/ every category you see in there is an Instagram page you can create. Now just scrape some photos related to the category and have it set to upload with your bot.

Jim, are there any viral hacking methods that you've used to grow at a rapid rate? do you do contests?

There are some, for example, whatever niche you're in you want your main keyword in the "name section" of your bio because Instagram shows the first results based on username and "name section" of an account. So for example if you were in the Car niche, you would want the make of your car page in the name section, pretty common sense but I see most pages don't utilize the "name section" in this regard.

Another tactic is to use other popular IGers name such as Dan Bilzerian in your name section to try and steal search traffic. If your page is big enough it will fall right under him when they search his name.

And like I said in posts above, once your account falls under the suggested users category expect to gain a lot of "free" followers.

Another technique these days is to have really big pages in your niche spam "like" a lot of your pictures instead of paying for shoutouts. Because under the activity section under "following" users see this big page that they are following liking your pictures so more than likely they will follow you since you all are into the same "niche".

And of course in the captions always ask to "Tag 3 Friends Because ..."

Those are some that come to my mind right off the bat.

But how do you find and get the offer deals is what I was asking. Also just out of curiosity, with 40 accounts, are you just logging in and out every time you need to interact? I know you have a bot but I'm sure you need to actually log on every once in a while. Unless the bot lets you have 40 accounts on it and you can use IG noramlly through it.

How do I find offer deals? You would have to join a CPA network like peerfly, maxbounty, neverblue or even clickbank etc. there are many out there, google cpa networks.

I only super manage 2-3 accounts that I log in with my phone and interact, upload with.

The rest were built with the mindset of build and forget(of course I log in every once in a while to check and make sure everything is good), But I have my bot do a lot of the work, posting pics, likes, etc.

Thanks for this AMA. I had a few questions:

1) You mentioned you have your own bot. How did you go about creating this? What was the cost in getting this developed?

2) Are there alternative bots that you recommend?

3) How do you get people to buy a product? Insert link in bio? A domain that redirects to the product you're promoting?

4) Have you ever faced any heat re scraping pictures?

5) You mentioned Snapchat. Do you use anything else? A website? Facebook page?

Thanks!

No prob, I guess this has turned officially into an ama I'll try to answer to the best

1. I have coders I hired from feelancer that I keep on my team. Be prepared to spend 5-10k.

2. I have had experience using igerslike and followliker. With followliker being the best commercial one I've used.

3. Exactly

4. No, as I specifically state in my bios that the pictures aren't mine and if you are the owner and want it taken down that I would, but I normally tag the user if I do end up using one of their pictures, so no real heat.

5. I use Instagram and Snapchat mainly. But I do plan on getting into FB ads so I will be having a Facebook page soon. And no actual websites as I've been promoting affiliate offers, unless you count landers I use those since Instagram does not allow direct linking to affiliate offers.

I'd love to see one of the accounts too. I've always wondered about people who are able to monetize IG.

Hey guys, unfortunately I will not be sharing my accounts so openly. The reason I shared them with MJ was because of the AMA rules. I hope you guys understand.

I wrote up some bullet points as I was making some documentation on the tips in this thread. Figured I'd share it here to help summarize some of the tips brought up.

- Add your snapchat name to your IG bio. Also mention to add your snapchat in all your captions

- Google CPA networks to find affiliate networks

- Use a bot like instagress, igerslike, and followliker or custom paid for bot to scrape for photos to post them instead of manually doing it

- To grow accounts like photo’s of followers on a large page that fits your niche, this can be done with the bot

- Whatever niche you're in you want your main keyword in the "name section" of your bio because Instagram shows the first results based on username and "name section" of an account. So for example if you were in the Car niche, you would want the make of your car page in the name section

- Another tactic is to use other popular IGers name such as Dan Bilzerian in your name section to try and steal search traffic. If your page is big enough it will fall right under him when they search his name.

- You can use the follow/unfollow method but doing more than 200 unfollows can get you banned

- You will need to find a proxy service if you open many IG accounts

- Use http://featurehub.com/shop/ if you want to promote your IG account with shoutouts

- If promoting the account work out a deal to get a set amount of followers from it, not just pay for a shout out

- Pro tip is having Snapchat takeovers. Basically a takeover is having someone famous or influential in your niche log into your account and do a "takeover" for the day and create stories for you.

- The key is to get your account big enough so it will have the drop down option of suggested users. I get tons of followers from the suggested users box. And a lot of my accounts are intertwined so they fall into each other's "suggested users".

- The easiest niches to grow are humor, quotes, and anything related to girl demographics.

- Use websites like http://www.cheezburger.com/ to scrape photos from. Every category you see in there is an Instagram page you can create.

- I scrape from other pages and internet pages (with the bot). If I don't tag the content creator on the pic then I usually put in my bio that the content is not mine, and if you would like it taken down, to DM or email me.

- Be sure to credit the photo author if possible and put a disclaimer in your bio the photos are not yours and will remove any of them at the request of the owner.

- Crowdfire is a good app for managing it if you're not using something like Followliker.

- Another technique these days is to have really big pages in your niche spam "like" a lot of your pictures instead of paying for shoutouts. Because under the activity section under "following" users see this big page that they are following liking your pictures so more than likely they will follow you since you all are into the same "niche".

- I do about 1900-2100 targeted likes a day per account with a delay of about 17-28 seconds per "like".

- A good tracking tool I use is:http://socialblade.com/instagram/just add your account in there and allow it 24 hours to scrape the data. You can also track other accounts and see how fast they are growing.

- It's all a numbers game, try to reach out to pages that are close to your follwers count as well. Most will only do sfs(shout for shout) with you only if you are close to his follower's count otherwise they will more likely ignore you or charge you.

- Post a photo once about every 4 hours

- Hashtags don’t hurt but typically help more in the beginning

- Also liking pics of users who recently liked photos on a big account in your niche may get more followers, because you know the account is recently active.

- I have a rooted android device which allows me to create unlimited accounts. There are alsoe services out there that create IG accounts for you. You do need dedicated IG proxies which I also pay for. And I have sources over seas for phone verification as well as a pv (phone verification) panel (no way around phone verifications)

So I took the plunge based on this thread and Jim.

Opened my first Instagram account via an emulator on my desktop, choose a niche, and started with some "safe" variables for likes and uploads.

I bought FollowLiker for this.

Got my first follower this morning and got my first 10 likes as well. Lets see where this goes once I push the numbers up slowly over the next 4 weeks.

Plan is to slowly roll up the new account over 4 weeks and to start a new account every week in a different niche to push my own products and offers.

Buying promotion shoutouts on IG.

Looking at the ones in 1m+ followers range, how can I tell if the account I'm buying from has legit followers or a bunch of fake ones?

Nowadays it can be very hard to tell, start off with looking at the likes/comments if the likes are not even near 10% of his followers then I would not do it.

I personally would work out a deal of a guaranteed number of followers from the shoutouts, so say you want 1k new followers, you would have a deal with the page owner to shout you out till you get the 1k followers. It's the best way to do it imo

Just bumping here with some updates notes....

I hit over 100 followers today.

Yeah I know, nothing impressive. However, I meant to take this slow on purpose.

It's been 2 weeks now I am going to start pushing things to the edge after Today. I feel like I have learned a lot about Instagram and Followliker and few other things too.

  • For one, scraping only the top pics works out better than not. You are getting active people who are actively posting right now. I am going to also try liking pics of people who follow a larger account too....

  • Second, for hashtags.. niche related is best for your pics, but sprinkle in some top tags like [HASHTAG]#instagood[/HASHTAG]

  • Follow back some of the people that follow you. I am doing Jim's method of just liking, but for each person that follows me.. I follow them back. I don't follow them first and see if they will follow me later ( and then remove them like some people do ). After today, I prob won't waste time on this though. The first couple hundred are prob. good to do though as it makes your account look more realistic and you build up an initial audience.

  • Building up the account first by hand with pics I post and hashtags and comments is
awesome, but after some point ( for me, 100 followers and 2 weeks testing ) it's time to automate more. Automating this without hashtags will prob be fine.

  • Bigger niches, get you more followers quicker.

  • Post things outside your niche randomly sometimes. An account that's all about 1 topic looks odd to people after a while.

  • ABB - Always Be Building. I am going to set up a process to let me build a new account per week even if it means I have to build my own bot.

  • This has to be a part of your master plan, not be the master plan itself. Use this to help expand your twitter followers, facebook page, and email list.

I'm turning the dail to 11 today. Thanks @JimD for this thread.

I can't answer for @JimD but I've found following a good number (like 50 a day) will get a good percentage following back if you stay niche specific (i.e. following the followers of competitor accounts, celebs / experts in the field). If they don't follow back after a week then I unfollow. Crowdfire is a good app for managing it if you're not using something like Followliker

Oops, I saw it. I seriously can't believe someone asked the same question. The same. Thing.

Would you say some niches on instagram are more profitable? Such as a shoutout or selling an account? If so which would you say are the best?
He's also answered this before. Be sure read the entire thread before asking questions.

10 followers in 12 hours. Painfully below the average you put earlier in this thread. Tweaking a few things I post and adjusting settings like I'm supposed to.

If I see no improvement could you offer a few tips to me if I give you a PM to my IG page?

I'm in my 5th day ( today ) with a new account and I have 20 followers. However, I am WAY under the recommended settings on purpose.

From what I can tell, you just started with a fresh account ( if I'm wrong, my bad ). You are not going to gain 500-1k followers a day on an account that is barely a day or 2 old and prob has less than 100 pics posted to it.

Think of this as a long-term asset, not a 5 day get rich quick scheme.

You're using a bot to automate this while you spend time building up your business. Be happy with anything you get from it. Don't f5 the stats every 12 hours and wonder why you are behind on a new account. People love crowds, you are not a crowd yet with a new account....

I've been doing similar stuff on the side as OP has, but I don't have my own bot. I noticed a lot of folks here are having trouble with things like FL and Instagress so I figured I'd mention that I've been using Boostgram.com for the last 6 months. It's a lot easier to use for the average person and has provided me better results as well. They even have the ability to schedule posts like OP's custom bot has.

I'd also like to give some tips in terms of engagement and actually making money. There is a lot of talk in here saying you need to be around 30k-50k followers to start monetizing. I'd have to disagree. It's less about the amount of followers you have and more about the amount of engaged followers you have. For example, having 1,000 followers and every photo has 500 likes and 100 comments vs having 30,000 followers and every photo has 1,000 likes and 200 comments. The later is obviously highly less engaged. So focus less on followers and more so on engagement ratio.

Hello @JimD

I've noticed people selling instagram accounts, would you recommend that as a good source of income or would you keep doing marketing for affiliates?

Anyway, 40+ accounts of niches ... How do you do it? Where do you find all this content? I'm assuming to need to keep posting photos to stay relevant, right.

Lastly, do you know of a good e-book about instagram marketing? Reading online is a bit sloppy and leaves holes in my knowledge of it.

Thanks for your AMA!

Yeah it can be, but the problem I see is finding buyers that have enough capital and being able to grow accounts at such a rapid pace to make it worth while. Recently I've **heard** that @luxquotes was bought for 40k and another 1million follower account was bought for 20k. So there is money to be made but unless you are able to grow such accounts at a rapid pace I would personally stick to what I'm doing, I can make more money in the long run with the account.

But I have come across/watched this udemy course with a clever method: https://www.udemy.com/learn-how-i-got-14-million-instagram-followers-in-48-hours/

Having a bot helps, and check my post #13 in this thread with the cheezburger reference..

Check post #55 in this thread, I recommended an ebook I read a while back.

Jim, I have an account with 30k followers, at what point would you deem appropriate to start monetising?

Depends on your niche and engagement. But 30k can be good enough..!

The ebook he linked said when you get to 50-100k. That's when you sell shoutouts

Usually the correct amount of followers to demand a paid shoutout, but I know a person at the 20-30k following making over $100/day selling shoutouts, though he does work(contacts companies/people in his niche daily). So anything is possible. Take action and learn along the way.

I like to target a big page's followers within my niche instead of hashtags.

Wow, this does make a difference. We just switched our bot from hashtags to big pages and hourly follower rate just went up about 7X.

Hey guys, I've read through this entire post but noticed a lot of the tips were written back in 2015.

Quick question: Is FollowLiker still worth using? I don't mind paying for it, just not sure how good it is and if there are any other tools I should consider?

Also, what number of followers should I expect with a minimum of 3 posts a day and including relevant hashtags? I started a few weeks ago, so I'm not expecting a lot yet, but keen to learn from others experiences!

Hey!

My account is growing anywhere from 1100 to 1700 each months:

3 posts a day is a lot, 3 posts a week is a good number for example due to the algorithm.
Finding an engagement group is useful to get extra comments and likes and boost your visibility on the algorithm.
Pictures of yourself get more likes, don't hide. For example my girfriend would take a pic of me working or working out, much better than selfies or mirror pics.
Make great caption related to what you market (yourself or product), stories are great, got a lot of engagement with those.
Use 30 hashtags, always under 500 000 users so you get at the top of suggestions for the niche you target.
Don't use the same hashtags everytime, the algorithm will punish you.

well the list is long but let's say: create great content right?

Note that I use a service to follow/unfollow that stays below the radar of suspicious activity.

Use the story! Big one.
Ups the trust in the brand, be consistent.
Use the location setting to 10x your views.
On a bad day I get 100 views for each post I make.
On a good day? 10x it.

Once you reach the sacred number of 10K a new World opens up: you can post links in your story - dope? Absolutely to drive traffic

Much more to say but I just think I overdelivered, hope you find some value mostly related to your desire of growing the account.

Peace.

@JimD

My question to you is, do you happen to have a good set of settings that we can use to maximize results for the bots

As of right now I only do "like" actions.

I do about 1900-2100 targeted likes a day per account with a delay of about 17-28 seconds per "like".

the average new followers I get from this method can range depending on niche.

the norm can range from 250-500 new followers a day

I have some other accounts that get 1k to 2.5k new followers a day but they are bigger accounts. expect the norm average^ at the beginning

A good tracking tool I use is: http://socialblade.com/instagram/ just add your account in there and allow it 24 hours to scrape the data. you can also track other accounts and see how fast they are growing.

@JimD
Also, I'm sorry if this was already asked, but how do you go about the share for share process? I've reached out to a number of people, all of which have ignored my requests so far. Thanks again!

It's all a numbers game, try to reach out to pages that are close to your follwers count as well. Most will only do sfs(shout for shout) with you only if you are close to his follower's count otherwise they will more likely ignore you or charge you.

Thanks @JimD

Particularily liked:

As of right now I only do "like" actions.

the average new followers I get from this method can range depending on niche.

the norm can range from 250-500 new followers a day

  • ~2500 likes per day
  • Use a ranged, random delay in between likes
  • Target likes to a specific niche
  • Avoid unfollowing
Hmm...doesn't seem overly difficult from a technical perspective...

And your path to monetization is to leverage affilate marketing; but you don't want to do it long term, although it's already brought 6 figures and you've gotten 4 million followers in the process.

You've shared so much here...so much value. Thanks man...

OK - I wanted to post a progress update. It has taken a bit of trial and error, but we are really pleased with the results.

We've been at this about 7 weeks and started with a "dead" account that was about 1 year old.

This morning we went over 7400 very targeted followers. :)

Here is what we are doing.

We have a "brand" rather than a person and we are posting mostly quotes based around that brand.

We are posting 8-12 images a day. For us, there is a definite correlation between number of photos and followers.

We have 30 hashtags on each photo that are targeted to our audience niche.

We are liking targeted photos.

We are doing keyword targeted follow / unfollow as well as those who like our photos.

We are NOT commenting.

Everything we are doing is automated with FollowLiker.

Today was the first 24hr period where we received 300 new followers.

:)

I'm taking this that you are running a possible 'business' account because you said brand.

1: 8-12 images is excessive. 3-4 is enough for a brand/business.
2: 30 hashtags is really ugly in a lot of users eyes. Your being a like whore. 6-10 hashtags is enough.
3: Trust me, I'm batman.
4: Low account with them gains:

PS - I won't be giving away my settings. I don't want everyone using them and causing a pattern to happen.
