I came across a company called Ad.ly and what they're doing is very simple but extremely fastlane. Companies come to them who want to market their product and Ad.ly finds a celebrity who fits their product well. Instead of selling "traditional" celebrity endorsements, Ad.ly sells celebrity tweets/facebook statuses. They write them up themselves so they're as smooth and non-commercial as possible and receive a commission payment.

The reason I'm interested in this is because it seems extremely lucrative and I think these types of endorsements are inexpensive yet beneficial to businesses. Consider an advertisement on the side of a facebook page vs. one of your favorite musicians/actors/athletes posting about a cool product. What gets more hits?

My problem is I don't know how to go from here. This is essentially a marketing firm with a fastlane business model tailored to today's marketing environment. I've been studying php/mysql so I can build a site where clients can log into if needed. But I have questions that might seem basic that I can't find the answers to.

1.) How does commission work with a marketing firm? What is the normal rate firms have? Let's say a company pays for an endorsement that costs $2,000 and commission is 10%. Would the $200 just be added to the final bill to the client or subtracted out of the endorsement cost?

2.) Should I try niche marketing in the beginning? I don't want to completely niche my market, but should I try advertising to musical or sports companies first and then approach musicians or athletes with a large web presence? This might increase growth in the beginning than just advertising to everyone.
