This is a great post and I can attest to the usefulness of using this stuff. It's marketed under different brand names, but this plastic is called Polycaprolactone or usually just PCL. I've used the "instamorph" brand in the past but it's all the same stuff. I use an electric tea kettle to heat water - put the plastic in and it turns clear. It's basically the consistency of silly putty at that point. It hardens and turns white as it cools. You can use it over and over again just by heating it up and letting it cool back down. When it's fully cooled it's really, really tough. It's flexible enough that it doesn't shatter or break and rigid enough that you can build anything you'd want. I'm a big fan.

It works pretty well with one sided press molds, but I haven't had much luck with a two sided clam shell mold. I use it to hand sculpt fixtures and prototypes to very quickly prove out a concept.
