Found another article like this one. I thought it was interesting because Alibaba is something that I'm sure some of us have used. It also provides another instance where an entrepreneur came close to failure, but their perserverance enabled them to continue...and it paid off for sure!

"Before I left China, I was educated that China was the richest, happiest country in the world."

Haha. I had some of the more miserable times of my life there. Being Chinese, and not knowing the language very well = more money for the taxi drivers.

Great read nevertheless, I have several relatives involved in the internet business; we'll see how the Chinese gov/economy treats them. I would be hard pressed to attempt to start a business there.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I got it from Inc.com. It was in the latest issue. I posted the link with the last one, but I forgot to for this one. I just subscribed to Inc. Magazine. They seem to have some very good content in them.

    Mr. Ma is a legend.
    Great in my eyes.
His taobao.com creating millions of job positions for China.
And no fee,not like ebay,so ebay lost China.

Taobao is bad for the economy, it's cutting out the retailers and distributors while connection them directly to the manufacturers.

Agreeing with Joy. Now is not the time to be a retailer. Stable businesses own their own products and systems. I work in hospitality, and sites like Expedia are realizing that that don't really own their "product." The hotels and the guests are winning at the expense of these middlemen.
