How do you guys get your mind re focused after some time off? Also, how do you prevent burn-out or deal with it when it does happen?
Spend a day reorganising. If you have had a whole week off then Sunday becomes the day you sit down and schedule your following week. Work out what needs doing and when.
Schedule everything in. From customer calls and marketing to picking up consumables for your business and booking in jobs. Once you have that done you just have to get through the first couple of days. Those are the hardest but just like muscle memory after a couple of days you will find yourself back to 'normality' again.
I go through this cycle on a regular basis. The hardest part is getting started as laziness has become the norm so you have to break the inertia that has created. It is basically a form of procrastination. Which means the hardest part is just getting started. Once you have it is much easier to continue.
It is estimated that it takes around 10% of a commercial aircraft's fuel supply just to take off and get to cruising altitude. It doesn't travel very far in that time compared with the total journey distance so that is a huge expenditure of energy for little forward gain. However that's the hardest part.
If you think of it in those terms it may be easier to overcome.
I would suggest you use a diary or software to organise everything and keep you accountable. I would recommend @LightHouse Trello thread if you don't already have a system in place. I use an extended form of it and also share my Trello with my life partner so she can nag me if she see's me slipping.
