I'm wondering where is a good place to look for good attorney? I dont have any friends/family that can recommend one for my needs, and I was thinking Avvo, but heard the attorneys there are a nightmare. Tried the referral center via telephone, and some did not return my calls, or were overcharging with outstanding amounts.

If you know any good websites or resources to look, it would be much appreciated!

Talk to criminals or people who are in trouble a lot. Its amazing the info you'll find when you ask the experts in any field.

My wife is an attorney. I have been around many for years. Most of it is through the "good ole' boy" network. If you find a good one, they will come with a price. Perhaps $300 per hour give or take a bit.

Most hand much of the work over to entry level lawyers. It will likely be trial and error to find one that you like. It is like any service. It is hard to vet them out without a good reference.

I doubt a referral service will work very well. A good attorney will likely have no need for that.

@SteveO you're right.

And to the others, no I dont need a criminal attorney. Quite the opposite.

my apologies in not really up to date with American terminology. I thought an attorney was criminal and a lawyer was other matters.

Avvo is OK but you really need to do your research on them. I found one lawyer on there - he did the bare minimum, gave the same advice I could've found online - never followed up and really didn't care what happened. He still got the job done for me, but lesson learned.

I see. Do you think Law guru is better? Mine I believe has to do with Litigation.

Totally depends on the type of legal work you need done, but try to get a friend or business associate reference
