Hey guys,

I'm working in having my first product ready for launch in time for the holiday season coming up. I was going to do an initial stock of 500 pieces and push hard with ppc type marketing.

Do you think 500 units is enough or think I will run out too soon?

I have no idea how anyone but you could answer the question given the info you provided.

You learn something whether you run out or not.

Good luck.

I think you need at least 410 pieces.

Or maybe 60.

No, shit. You better buy 10,000.

What if you buy 10,000? Worst case, you might have 9,900 left in January.

On second thought, what about buying 10 pieces and selling them through?

Can you make $1200 per unit? That would be $12,000 net profit.

You don't need 10,000. If you were able though to sell 10,000 at $12,000 net profit each, that would be

120,000,000 in net profit. That might be a little aggressive between now and Christmas, even if you push hard.

Maybe stick with 100. If you sell 100, you could make 1,200,000 in net profit.

Donate half of it. You're left with 600,000. Not bad for 3 months worth of work.

Or maybe just buy 3.

Hopefully my stream of consciousness matched yours. This might not make sense to anyone but you and me. I am tracking with you. I think you should buy 10,000.

If your product is seasonal then buy less. If its all year round you might risk more.

Funniest post I've read in a long time, though in all seriousness OP.

Make sure you overbuy, more than you think you'd need.Better to be safe than sorry.

If you sell all 500, and run out of stock, that is a good thing.

Place the order if you can afford it.

Can confirm. I've kicked myself for not ordering enough inventory twice, and I told myself, "Never again." It cost weeks of lost sales during the most promising seasons of the year.

Suprisingly enough, I get it 100%. Also one of the most realistic answers I could have hoped for! Thank you!

Also @Omega and @Marc B.

Not a seasonal product by any means, just thinking getting it out by Christmas would jumpstart the business pretty well. This being said it seems like more if definitely better than less in this case!

Buy what you can afford, run the numbers and see what you can afford to spend per unit in PPC advertising. Watch the trends. If you blow through 50% in a week, order more immediately. If you only sell 5 units in a month, you'll have enough.

Watch the trends, reorder appropriately.

Have you sold one unit yet?

If not, have you pre-sold an early version, prototype or anything similar?

Have you run a PPC campaign with one unit?

What sort of metrics do you have to eliminate as many unknowns as possible, before you order?

Have you sold one? Is it valuable or a 'me too'? Would it work well as a Christmas gift? Would it lend well to 'word of mouth' advertising? What is the lead time to more stock? What do your calculated business numbers tell you about risk vs invested amounts?

Like if 26 people had come on here and said 'no, you need 714'.........
