I've been working on my first direct response marketing campaign over the last two weeks.

When someone asked me yesterday, if I sent it out already, I had to answer: "No".

He asked me: "Why not?"

My answer: "I still need to research which color scheme has the best psychological effect on what I am trying to achieve..."

He: "Are you serious?"

Well, I was.

But that quickly changed.

We all strive for greatness, we all want to get to the top in whatever we do.

But if we don't put ourselves out there, if we don't start, we won't go anywhere.

Some of the best in their fields sucked big time when they started out.

Don't be afraid. Don't be scared. Embrace the feedback.

Push, move, ship, publish, produce, create.

But start.

And never stop.

Take that first step.

Stop getting caught up in perfectionism.

Go out there. Show it to people. Get feedback.

Give yourself permission to suck.

You'll learn much faster.

P.S.: I initially learned this lesson here.

Nice. "Give yourself permission to suck" is one of my favourite lines. I first heard it from "Doberman Dan", a copywriter and former student of Gary Halbert.

Lesson of last week's work:

Give yourself permission to create value.

You don't need permission from someone to design a landing page for them.

You don't need permission from someone to generate a lead for them.

You don't need permission from someone to write an about page for them.

Don't wait for their yes.

Take initiative and show them what you can do to help them.

Sell concrete examples, not vague ideas.

Show, don't tell.

I'd say this is easier said than done. All our lives, we've been trained to be led by others. To ask permission. From your parents. Your elders. Your teachers. And your boss.

People are so conditioned to wait for permission, that the only solution is this.

I give you permission ;)

freedom is not a birth right . politics fairy tales are for stupid people, not smart one.

freedom is won everyday through battle, tears and blood.

we were not born free, we have to earn it by giving us permission to fight stupidity

most people are not free , their body might be free but not their mind.

this is indeed krishnamurti's lesson :

Good post.

I struggled with this for years, especially with my wife. She was NOT on board with anything fastlane. (yet that fastlane attitude was part of what she found attractive in me, go figure lol)

After years of arguments and so on, where I was essentially trying to get her permission, I finally just started doing it anyway. I figured she'd either come around or she'd find herself single.

Now she's my biggest supporter.

But it took ME taking action, and not waiting for her "approval" or "permission"

Do you remember a specific turning point? LIke an event where you could tell something clicked for her?

Yeah, there was a point where I could tell it clicked with her. As I was buying my first rental, her and I met with my rental mentor (he's also my realtor) and the VP of the bank I finance through, and both of them told my wife about how well the transaction had gone, how good of deal I had gotten, and how they couldn't believe I had already lined up a tenant before I even owned the place.

My realtor also presented 2 other deals to me at that same time, neither of which were listed properties, and I had only heard of them through networking with other landlords that didn't even realize they wanted to sell. I went and found properties I wanted, met the owners, and made offers. I bought one of them as well.

At the same meeting I told the bank VP that I wanted a $500k line of credit so that I could buy properties in cash and finance them later. I had that line of credit about 2 weeks later.

She talked about that meeting non-stop for days. I think it became obvious to her that I knew what I was doing (I didn't really, but I was learning haha), and it calmed her fears that I wasn't buying over-priced junk that would sink our personal finances.

Now she's on board, and I make sure to calm her "fears" by communicating with her about that I am doing with our money.
