From Action Faker To Action Taker: How I Made Thousands On eBay In Less Than 3 Months

Hey everyone, my name's Joe. Like many of you, I listened to both of M.J DeMarco's books "The Millionaire Fastlane " and "Unscripted ."

Before listening to his books, I listened to dozens of self-help and business books, everything from Stephen Covey to Tom Peters. But it was something MJ said; I think it was in "Unscripted ," that really struck a nerve. He called out people like me who only listen to self-help books (a.k.a self-help porn) and do nothing about what they learn. I fit firmly into this category, or at least I used to.

Then one day, I told my wife, who has been an entrepreneur for many years, that I wanted to start a supplement business on eBay, reselling supplement pills. She told me to go for it, and that's just what I did.

First, I found a wholesaler in the U.S. and bought a pack of pills. Then, I used a lot of the techniques I learned from books like "Cashvertising" to write up some powerful copy for my item description and headline.

I filled my copy with useful information, personalized it, and peppered it with many "calls to action." I also found an appealing featured image to make my product stand out from the crowd.

I went even further by creating a YouTube video about the product and embedded it into my copy (something no one else was doing).

From this one product, I've made thousands within about three months. And to be honest, I didn't put nearly as much work as many Entrepreneurs put into their business, but I did a shit-ton more than most eBay sellers.

I just wanted to share this because many people worry about the "low-threshold of entry" many platforms like eBay and Amazon offer. While it is easy to start an eBay account and start selling, it's also easy to stand out from the crowd with excellent copy, headlines, and featured images.

Note, that I've made most of my money from one item on eBay, which costs less than $25 (at my highest package) and nets me about $9.50 per item after shipping, Paypal, and eBay fees are taken into account. I'm at the post office nearly every day with packages to mail, and my customers are loyal fanatics who love the product and the customer service.

And guess what?

I'm not selling a unique product. In fact, most people can find the same item or one like it for much cheaper on eBay. Actually, my prices are higher than most of my competition, but my customers are happy to pay it because they feel a sense of value in my presentation.

Now, do I lie to people to trick them into thinking my product is more valuable?

No.

In fact, my copy is the most brutally honest you'll find in my supplement category. And my customers reward that honest with daily sales. I posted a screen grab of my sales if anyone's interested. By the way, I'm also the #6 top seller in my category.

My point is that there is no excuse for not making money and becoming your own boss. You've got to look at every setback as a minor irritation in need of an answer which you won't stop until you find. Indomitable determination, the ability to learn and grow, and a good eye for opportunities can take you anywhere.

Now I wake up every day, thinking about how I can pour more gasoline on my business, which continues to grow steady profits.

I'm not a millionaire yet, nowhere close. In fact, my wife and I owe a small fortune to the IRS, and we are in a lot of debt. Despite everything that seems to be working against us, I can't see anything but our future success, nothing else occupies my attention.

You have to devote yourself to success like it is your religion. There mustn't be anything that would make you quit hustling for your dream. An old book called "Think and Grow Rich" really drove that point home for me too.

Anyway, I hope this story helps someone. I'm by no means any kind of millionaire guru (at least not yet), but I've got a taste for success, and now I'm hooked like an addict.

Good luck everyone, never stop your grind.

You heard the call and took action.
Not only that but you carved out space in the crowded online supplement market.

I have a few people in my life that tried to start their own supplement business but never really got off the ground. They got too caught up in trying to develop the new blockbuster, something perfect that retailers would bow to, and never ended up doing anything. You looked found an opportunity, and took the leap.

Do you have any plans to reduce the shipping burden on yourself and your margins going forward?

The eBay shipping costs are pretty fixed. However, I plan to experiment with higher priced packages for the same costs to increase profit. I'm also working on building capital to make more bulk wholesale orders and eventually find a Chinese supplier to make my product (which would increase my margins considerably).

And keep in mind that I'm only selling one product right now. I know I can do the same with any product on eBay. It's all about attitude, I walked into eBay and announced that I'm taking over. And eventually, the market responded by attacking me with money.
