I'm sure its great to segment your customers once they purchase so you can send even more appropriate emails.

That being said... the permutations can get totally out of hand QUICKLY..

As just an example...

You have a front end product with 2 upsells in your funnel.

Post purchase you have even more products your customer could purchase.

If you really wanted to segment your customer emails you would literally need a separate list for every single product combination possible. Purchased this but not that, etc...

Purchased Product A - not product B
Purchased Product A - and B but not C
Purchased Product A - B and C
Purchased Product A - C but not B
etc etc... etc...

QUICKLY will get out of hand if you have multiple product offers.

Now throw in more products -- Product D, E, F , G, H, etc...

Talking thousands of lists here..

MUST be a way to segment your customers but also be able to minimize lists AND yet set appropriate emails when you have more than a couple products??

Surely you don't want customers who already purchased a product to get the same emails as someone who didnt?

I don't know how you're keeping track of all this, but the thing I'd do would be to keep a single database of customers. I'd have important attributes about them, such as personalized data if gathered, date of joining, date of first purchase, reapeat customer or not, and then I'd have a column for each of my products with a '1' if they've purchased, and a '0' if they haven't. Any time I wanted to create a custom mailing list I'd do it on the fly, either by using excel sort, or writing up a simple script to extract what I wanted.

@eqttrdr Take a look at drip.co - they use one list with multiple tags, rather than multiple lists. Sounds like the kind of thing you are after.

Have to say... Drip is awesome and highly recommended!!

Thanks!!
