In Barcelona someone stole my sneakers and when I found out it started to rain. I had to go back in socks all wet with people looking at me as if I was some kind of crazy man I have witnessed many thefts on the beach too. The last 5 years the city has changed a lot, there're videos with lunatics using machetes and sh*t There's a reason why it's called Warcelona by some.
Yeah I've heard many bad things about Barcelona. It's interesting because otherwise Spain is a super safe country except for some poor areas in some big cities.
What about Malta?
Heard it's very safe and pleasant if you don't mind living in a super tiny and densely populated country. They also have very favorable taxes, particularly for gambling and crypto if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe we need to separate nationwide influence from local.
I mean, if X country has a Socialist or anti-business Government I wouldn't go there because in any place I'm affected by their BS.
But others like Brazil or Mexico need to be examined differently, what places there are safe? Where would I be welcomed, free and happy?
Some countries have systemic issues with crime and safety. I'd say both Brazil and Mexico have it though definitely not on the same level like El Salvador, Jamaica, or Honduras. Then there are countries that have mostly localized issues, for example Chile which overall is deemed a safe country.
Here is another one for you, same city. My wife's first ever boyfriend was recently murdered, during the day, in a restaurant. I guess there were 3 of them eating together, when gunmen came in and opened fire on the the table. The reason? One of them was working with a cartel on the side and made them mad, or didn't do what they wanted, or maybe did what they wanted, who knows. The point is, that the other two may or may not have even known what that one guy was up to, and they still ended up dead.
Things like this could have been us. Wife could have ran into her old friend, we agree to catch up and go for a bite to eat. The hard-core criminals pick that day to off him. We end up in the crossfire. So yea, more reason to absolutely stay away from those hotbeds of cartel and organized crime.
I am still choosing Mexico as my home country for the next while. I will not be going to the mentioned places, or anywhere even remotely similar. You want to pull that crap? I won't be a part of it.
Terrible. Where was this?
But ultimately it boils down to how much your budget is. I assume, correct me if I am wrong, even if you live in North America, or even South America, where crime stats are much higher, if you can afford to live in a rich neighborhood these shitty things do not happen there.
I'm not so sure. Yes, you can live in a richer neighborhood but you become a more attractive target for kidnapping, robbery, extortion, etc.
