It's been a while since I visited this forum, but I'm about to "open" for business very soon and could use some fresh perspectives.

I've written before about finding a fastlane road in the fitness (more specifically strength & conditioning) industry. My original approach was to write ebooks/books, make DVD's, etc. but realized that the chances of making it with only those types of products are slim, as they've been done to death already.

So I need to mix it up a little. For all the fitness entrepreneurs/followers out there, what would you recommend as some promising products (or channels through which to offer information) that could lead to a fastlane path in the fitness industry?

    Thanks for the help.

Interesting product, but I was thinking of something more information-based (like "how-to" products).

Didn't you just say that stuff has been done to death already? And it's been "done to death" because it's an extremely easy market to enter-- there are no barriers which means you have to be a top 95% executor. The process there would be to learn how to be the top 95% before giving up.

The fitness bag I used as an example is not so easy of a market to enter-- every tom, dick, and harry won't be competing with you.

What do you mean by "I'm about to open for business. ". What actions have you taken since the last time you were here?

Consulted a marketing expert, tested the market (e.g. SWOT analysis), designed a business card and a brochure, and narrowed down my market to a target audience. All that's left to do now is to construct the website and write my PR piece for the local area.

I meant just books, DVD's and the like. There may still be viable options out there, such as seminars, personal consultations (face-to-face, not on the internet), and classes. There may be issues in this arena with scaling, at least in the beginning until I expand enough to hire associate trainers, but it's still possible.

Inventing a physical product will be near impossible for me AT THIS TIME, as I currently have little funding and no resources for such an endeavor. However, that's not to say that I won't be doing that in the future after I have income flowing in from something else (e.g. the training business). But I'm starting from scratch right now; as such, I need to take steps toward the fastlane, not jump right in (unless there's something I'm missing perhaps ).

With Kickstarter, Indiegogo, et. all, that really isn't an excuse anymore. So if you do get a good idea in the future, don't let the money stop you. Crowdfunding sites can not only fund your idea, it could validate it as well.

Tried kickstarter before, didn't really have a good experience with it, may give Indiegogo a shot though. However, I've heard it mentioned that those sites work best for people who already have a good-sized following, or are already known to a point. Again, I'm starting from complete scratch, so reaching the fastlane step-by-step looks like the only viable option for me. But we'll see. Thanks for the help.

You sound like you are creating a self-limiting belief about what options you have. People are not born with a following and the all start from somewhere.

Go out there and get known. Create a following. Does the following that you create want to fund your, or do they want something else?

"Whats the best that can happen?" -Me

Heres an idea that I would like to see. A P90X type of program where there is the personal trainer who is the main guy and then fat people who are in the background of the workout videos.

After 90 days, the fat people will be in shape and they are the new personal trainers leading others to get where they are. An endless cycle of workout videos where the students transition into the teachers.

That's exactly what will happen with my personal trainer business. My company name will gain exposure from the beginning while simultaneously generating revenue from my personal, group, or class consultations, seminars, etc. I believe crossfit started this way, though I could be wrong.

My training does revolve around a specific program which I created, which will be used as I teach others. However, books and DVD's are something I wish to avoid as they've already been done extensively --> enter the face-to-face coaching.

With the (un)Affordable Care Act, many businesses with at least 300-500 people need help with their workers to keep them as healthy as possible to get a decent rating so insurance will be cheaper. You might approach groups like that to be their "corporate fintess specialist".
