I'm a developer who was involved in the music industry and after seeing that devs are following "doing what they love" working literally for free, i got the hell out. The same I see is for games, these industries of "passion" is filled with very highly skilled people working tons for so little.

of course there's tons of money to be made in these industries but once you're in it, the competition is VERY high.

Agree 100% that the "do what you love" mentality leads to way too many people in certain fields. To avoid this, you almost need to consider getting into something with "people dislike it" as an added barrier of entry. Then all of a sudden you benefit from a very limited supply of people willing to do the job, even if the job isn't that difficult.
