Making a product that fits Etsy well, but my original plan was to just build an email waitlist using a squeeze page and then launch through email or should i just list it up on Etsy?

Does Etsy have the commoditizing effects like other platforms where you are just in a sea of other brands? Talking specifically about product launching.

Waistlist or just Etsy?

It depends. If your product is like others, it may get lost in the sea of Etsy. Whether or not your item is like others, though, your best best is to do a build up via social media and then launch on Etsy. Etsy's algorithm seems to change almost daily and they did once admit they do a socialism type of shuffle to spread out sales among sellers. They also changed the algorithm to create a "diversity or shops" within the first pages of shops regardless of relevancy of item.
So....I would find a way to direct people right to your items if at all possible. In any case, however you launch, you will need people to find you.
